Hello everyone,
I need some advice please, I am almost finished with my prereqs, and my grades in general chemistry1 was a D. So i re took it and got a C. I am so ****** off, because i feel like that class is imporatant for my entrance to nursing school. I do not want the admissions people to think i re took it and got a C. "What a dumb ass". Im just real nervous, however i still have general chem 2 left to take, and i am gonna work for an A.
What do you guys think...Should i re take the General chemistry1, and try to get an A, or should i just move on to General chemistry 2 and make sure i get an A.
By the way: Anatomy=B
Microbiology=B
Pysioology= taking spring quarter
and all my other genreal prereqs i have mostly B's and some A's.
Please let me know what you think, thanks

If chem 1 is not one of the prerequisites that they look at the grade for admission, only that you take it, I would not bother. Only the specific courses that they look at should be repeated with consideration taken for the impact of repeating.

also take into consideration that a lot of nursing schools nowadays will only allow you to repeat a course ONCE. so if you retook chem already and got the C, i wouldn't recommend taking it again. i had a couple friends apply for nursing schools and they got denied for retaking their sciences too many times.

Where I did the nursing program chemistry was only a prerequsite for microbiology and was not calculated into the GPA for admission into the program. As far as retaking classes, one of the classes that did count towards the GPA (algebra) I got a C in and retook it because I wanted at least a B. I received a B in algebra the second time around. However, unfortunatley if you get a C in a class that grade will count towards your GPA even if you repeat a class and get a higher grade. The only grades that will be replaced with a higher grade is a D or an F. It's almost worst to get a C instead of a D....

The school where I'm at doesn't even require chemistry. Why don't you apply and see if they accept you first. Then you know you won't have to retake it. If you get rejected, then retake it. This is the path I would take.
I don't understand that, since many nursing programs will not take certain classes more than 5 yrs old ie anatomy, micro. , so I can't imagine why retaking a course would hurt a person.
Artificial criteria to eliminate scores of applicants from the applicant pool. It makes absolutely no sense to require repetition of a course more than five years old on the one hand, and then to penalize someone else who wastes the same amount or more money repeating courses to get more "competitive" grades. Either way, the goal of bringing in more tuition money to the school has been met.

ugh chemistry. I did mine in highschool, got a 52, then went to summer school to re-do it and got a 72. (i needed a minimum 70% for my program) i remember a guidance counselor told me that I shouldn't be a nurse if I can't do chemistry, which makes me mad to this day because I've barely used anything I learned in that class except basic things like the periodic table (potassium is K!) I don't even understand why we need chem, it's not like we're making the drugs, we just need to know the action and doses etc.
as long as you've met the requirements, don't do it a third time! good luck!

But, you DID retake it and get a C. They're going to know that anyway, aren't they? Aren't they also going to be able to see that you took it a third time? I think taking the class for a third time would look worse than taking the C and moving on. If it's a high enough grade to get in to your program (if it's required), I'd let it be.

You have a passing grade. Just move on and try to do better in your next chemistry course.
i know a lot of nursing schools in california who look down on taking a course more than twice, even if you are trying to get a better grade the third time around.
if you meet the grade requirement, i agree with the other posters and just move on :)
