Should I look for a sponsor first Vs take nclex test before working in Michigan?

Published

Dear sir /madam,

i have been working as a nurse for 10 years in operating theatre in Amman Jordan.

My eldest son moved few months ago to the america to study in a college in michigan.. I am looking forward to work as a registered nurse in Michigan.

I applied to CGFNS few years ago and was eligible to take the exam .

I don"t know if i should apply for it ? or for the nclex in Michigan ??

Can anyone apply for nclex outside america ?? and where?/ so i guarantee I pass it before coming .

But some people say if ypu pass nclex doesn"t mean u can work in america.

Should iI look for an employer first ?? and he may pay for the exam and I could practice in the U.S. and get more knowledge of their policies ???

I really don"t know what to do ??? please help me. i love to reunite with my son.

I did ounce IELTS Academic and got 7 .

Many thanks

Yours sincerely

You do not apply for the NCLEX. You apply for a nursing license by examination as an internationally educated nurse. No employer is going to consider a candidate without a US nursing license nor is any going to even consider paying for the NCLEX and licensing fees for an IEN especially since the first attempt pass rate of NCLEX for IENs is less than 25%. You cannot seek employment without a license. An employer cannot even consider sponsoring a visa if you don't meet the job requirements. If your son is on a student visa he is not eligible to sponsor you for a visa. Only citizens can sponsor certain family members.

You can apply for a nursing license by examination while still overseas (NCLEX is but one step in the process). Just because you pass the NCLEX does not guarantee a nursing license. And even if licensed you are not guaranteed a job or sponsorship (no one is). Having a decade or experience in the OR increases your chances of finding employment but only once you are fully licensed by a US state board of nursing.

Welcome

Registering as a RN in the state you wish to live and work is your starting point. Only a handful of states require CGFNS exam although most use CES report from CGFNS which is a breakdown on your nursing transcripts. Finding a employer willing to go the work permit (H1b) or immigration route will be hard due to many US nurses looking for work, please note I said hard not impossible. Having experience in an area is certainly a bonus.

Thank you for your reply. My son is a citizen.but I want to get licensed and work before I go there. i am trying to contact nursing board of michigan but their page is not opening

If your son is a US citizen then it is going to be easier and quicker for him to apply for you for immigrant visa than trying to find a employer. I would suggest first however start with sorting nurse registration out. Links to the various state nursing boards can be found at the bottom of the page

thank you for your reply andthe hope you gave me . I'll keep trying. I read somewhere on the internet you could apply for CNA ,while getting ready to pass nclex. Also some shortage in nursing area could be helpfull

CNA will not get you a visa allowing you to live and work in the US. Even shortage may not help as you still need to meet both nurse and immigration requirements and find employer willing to pay $$ as they have to pay not you especially if work visa

Many Thanx I really appreciate it
