Should I just go to school for LPN or should I go for RN?

Hello everyone,

I will be starting nursing school in august for LPN. It will take me 14 months to complete the program. I want to be a nurse but want to know should i just stop at LPN or do the bridge at the same school for my RN? My goal is to move to florida in 2016 however, i dont see a lot of LPN openings in florida. My friend is an LPN and she said she makes the same amount as an RN here in Ohio but it is a hustle. What is really the difference between the 2, other than LPN can not hang blood? I guess i have a lot of questions as well.

Basically, the LPN's scope of practice is dependent upon the state where (s)he is practicing. In some states LPNs can hang blood, perform IV therapy, and do virtually everything their RN counterparts do. On the other hand, some states place severe restrictions on the tasks LPNs are allowed to complete.

I'm in central FL, and there are tons of LPN jobs (just no hospitals). You can literally walk in off the street and get hired in home health or LTC. How good these jobs are is subjective, but I work in pediatric HH and love the pay and schedule so far.

That being said, if you are able to continue on and get your RN, DO IT ASAP. I've never met an LPN who said, "Boy, I sure am glad I didn't get my RN."

I've decided to take my LPN course, and then finish and get my license. Then once I get my license ill work as an LPN and gain nursing experience while I bridge to the RN at my same school. A lot of my credits will transfer from LPN to RN. Atleast you will have nursing experience by the time you graduate with an RN. It'll be easier for you to land a job. :)

I say the samething. I'm currently taking the test for the LPN. And I don't wanna stop there but, that's jus where I chose too start. It's easier for me being a single mother. I'm not in school for a longer period of time. I can work and make a decent living, while I support my family. It jus works out for me rt now. But I def encourage u too keep the education goin. I know I will!
