I'm sure all schools are different. At the school where I got my BS degree, there was an Honors College. If you were in the Honors College, your course requirements were different. There were additional assignments for the Honors students, their research papers had to be longer, more in-depth, whatever. I opted NOT to join the Honors College because I didn't want additional course work but I still graduated with high honors, Magna Cum Laude.
What I am trying to say is that at my school, you didn't have to take the Honors option in order to graduate with Honors. Your school might be different, I don't know.

Hi! I recently got accepted to IUPUI's nursing program. I also was offered the opportunity to do the honors program involved with my program. The information I received with my packet stated that it was a good option for people interested in research or students wanting to go into a master's program. I definitely am interested in getting a master's degree, but I'm not sure that I want to do research, so I'm not sure if this is something I should do...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
