I have a question my G.P.A is low so instead of getting my license in another health field first would it be better to get my B.S. in Science then I will be more prepared for clinicals and I will have a better chance to get into the Nursing school of my choice.

It may be safer, and cheaper, to specifically retake the nursing prereqs rather than get the B.S,unless you want to specifically do an accelerated BSN (which are very competitive) rather than a 2-year transfer ADN or BSN program. Many nursing programs put much higher weight on grades for their required prereq courses than they put on general science credits. I have a lot of extra general science credits (2 years of bio, organic, inorganic and biochemistry, physics, etc) from taking premed coursework, but I really can't say that it helped me be prepared for clinicals. The only extra general science course that I can really say that I was glad to have taken before nursing is pathophysiology. Good luck!

I say that it would not be better for you to get a non-nursing BS degree. If your gpa is low even having a BS degree will not make it easier to get into nursing school. The accelerated programs designed for students who have a prior bachelors degree are some of the most competitive programs to get into. They look at your overall gpa from your bachelors degree and most require at the very minimum a 3.0 but it is more realistic to say you need a 3.5 to get accepted.
I agree with the other poster who said to try and retake the classes that are required for the nursing program to raise your gpa. I am one of those people who originally wanted to go to med school so I was getting a BS degree in human biology. Approximately 3 years into it I decided I didn't want to do med school and decided on nursing. I thought the best way to go would be to finish my BS, graduate, and then go back to nursing instead of just switching my major to nursing then. But now I know that was a mistake. I have a very unmarketable BS degree and am still waiting on getting into nursing school somewhere.

Having a B.S. in Biology is no guarantee to do well in any of the nursing prerequisites...I had a few fellow classmates with B.S. in Bio and some of them did rather poorly in the science classes that I was in so far, ...especially in A&P. Most of them did a lot of sharpshooting the teacher( got someone like that in my current micro class ) but when it came to testtime....forget it. I would concentrate on the nursing prerequisite courses and get started with those if I were you.
