Should I call?

Published

i have handed out a number of resumes over the past few weeks and was told by a teacher to call 7-14 days after you hand them in. should i only call the places that said they were currently hiring and what should i say?

thanks

I called all the places I applied to and asked if they had any open positions? If they were hiring, I'd ask the status of my application. This normally will get an answer, though some places don't discuss app status over the phone and tell you that you'll be contacted. Hope this helps

many hospitals say on their site "please do not contact us, we will contact you if you are selected as a top candidate for this position" or something like that. unless its a small place, i wouldnt bother because they get 100s of applicants. my advice, how unfortunate it may sound, is to just apply, apply, apply.

If there are jobs that you are particulary interested in, I would call and politely state that you would like to follow up on the status of your resume submission. It never hurts to make a phone call and might make an impression, especially if there are many applicants. I once got a job over other applicants that the company (not health care) was also considering, because I was the only person who made a follow up call.
