Should I bother applying into CRNA school?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I've been feeling discouraged about getting into a CRNA Program.

I applied into 2 schools last year with Neuro ICU experience

- School one I did not get an interview

- School 2 I interviewed but did not get waitlisted

STATS

Nursing GPA 3.31

BSN GPA 3.62

Cumulative GPA 2.98 ? ( I have an AA degree which I repeated many classes and received grade forgiveness, unfortunately nursingcas doesn't consider this)

I took Chemistry and physics for nurse anesthesia - A

Currently taking another chem class and should get an A, since I have taken so many classes this 3credit class would only boost my GPA from 2.98 to a 2.999 ugh ?

GRE 304

CCRN

1.5 yr in Neuro ICU

10months in ECMO/CVICU

Recently shadowed with a CRNA

- just looking for words of encouragement and maybe some people who have gotten into CRNA school with a lower cumulative GPA

don't know of anyone that has gotten in with a low cumulative but you're doing the right thing by taking the advanced courses and demonstrating you're capable of doing the work. Hopefully that will work out to your benefit most likely with a program that recognizes your hard work.

So, you're GPA isn't the greatest. You've done some work, and that's awesome! Obviously, a school took interest and offered an interview. You do not need to give up. Especially if this is what you want to do! Did you ask what would have set you apart or sealed the deal? How many schools are you applying to? I recommend not applying to schools using nursingCAS if that is a hindrance to your GPA. Have you heard of the CMC, CSC, or TCRN? These are all certs that may be applicable to your clinical experience and may be worth pursuing as well. Hang in there, and don't give up. The hard work will be worth it. ❤️

Avoid schools using the CAS. Find schools that use the GRE-a 302 is a good score. Take the chem and earn an A. Another year ICU. Keep applying.
