Ok so I'm 28 years old and I don't have any children. I am working on my prereqs for my BSN but my ultimate goal is to get a masters in midwifery. I wanted to wait till I finished school but I think I'll be too old to start having children, I would ve around 36 years old is there any of you who went trough something similar? If so give me advice. I still need one more year to finish my prereqs. I know this should be a personal decision but I need advice from the ones that have gone through a similar situation.
I really don't know what to tell you. What do you feel is right? Are you ready to juggle the responsibilities of being a student and mother?
If it was up to me to decide I wouldn't have a baby. I'm only 20 years old so I have a lot of time to think about it.
But honestly, when I think about all the stress I'm going through right now I really don't think having a baby on top of it
would be doing a service to my health. Think long and hard before you make this decision.
I had kids while doing my pre-reqs, people said I was making all the wrong choices and that I needed to get my degree first then think about having kids. I am really glad I didnt because I was able to stay home with the kids while finishing my education, which gave me valuble time with them. By the time I graduated nursing school both my kids were in school, making it so much easier to go to work. I had to have child care after school, but it is alot cheaper than if I had all day care. My husband takes them to school when I work.
If you wait until after you graduate, you will have more financial security, and have benefits ect. The argument could go both ways, there are pro's and con's to both.
Good luck with your decision:D

I hear you, OP. I'll be 30 this year and waiting for the letter of acceptance that should come (fingers crossed!) this April/May. I didn't have the option to have a baby after pre-reqs because, due to a family emergency, we were in big debt. I think we'll be alright after this year but at the same time I'll start (hopefully!) the BSN and I've heard people have no life during NS.
I never thought I'd be facing this situation. I'm a bit scared because I've heard that women after 35 have lots of problems to become pregnant and give birth compared to younger women and I don't know how long will take to graduate and get a job.
