Should all accelerated nursing programs require a supplemental application?

Published

Almost all of the accelerated nursing programs I look at do not require a supplemental application (i.e., experience, references, statement of purpose, CV etc) and ONLY admit you based on your GPA. Only 2 schools I've looked at require the supplemental. In your opinion, should all schools judge us based on both our GPA and our previous experience? It seems sort of unfair to judge 100% on GPA in my opinion..

The program I applied for required you to include your resume. I made reference to my current job in my essay as it applied to the essay topic as well. I think it's nice information for them to look at to get a better feel for the applicants as a whole but don't think it's the end of the world for schools not to ask.

I completed an accelerated program several years ago. Supplemental applications are either regional or they've phased them out recently, as most schools I looked at required them. If they've been phased out it's probably due to a) the number of applicants programs receive vs the number of slots means the school can be selective and/or b) schools have seen a trend that the students that make it through the very rigorous programs are those with high GPAs.

All of the ABSN programs I looked at required some sort of supplemental application beyond GPA alone. For my top choice program I had to submit CV, letters of req, personal statement, exam scores, an example of my prior academic work as well as attend an in-person interview with the program. GPA still carries a lot of weight though.

Wow that's great! Very lucky, I wish most of the schools I am applying to did that. I have a good GPA... but It's not like a 3.9 or 4.0 or anything. I have TONS of experience in hospitals (2 hospitals and 5 departments), clinics, student organizations, and research... I really wish most schools I apply to accepted supplementals.
