My school doesn't specifiy, we just have to have a white lab coat....do you wear a short or a long lab coat?? Does it matter? Sorry if this sounds stupid....but I am worried about the white coat length hiearchy in medicine.

Long lab coat. It is meant, very practically, to cover your uniform or street clothes and protect others you come into contact with from any bacteria that you might have picked up as well as to protect you from any bugs patients have brought with them from getting on the clothes under your lab coat.

I like the long white lab coat - it covers up my ever increasing tush.
However you need to check with your facility and/or program.
In some areas a long white lab coat is indicative of medical students finally becoming a doctor.

Right - at my hospital, medical and nursing students wear short lab coats, and when they graduate and become doctors and nurses, then they can wear the longer ones.
I agree - call the school.
My school doesn't specify either way that is why I'm asking here :)
Then get a mid-length one - one that goes to your thighs. The very long knee-length ones are more for the docs, and the hip-length jackets are more for the med students.
Ok, thanks!!
