I am about to enter my last semester of nursing school. I have 2 past convictions of shoplifting and passing bad checks. These convictions were over 7 years ago. I have changed my life and I am no longer the person I was then. I am really scared that the BON is going to deny my application for a license because of these convictions. I really hate the thought of going through all these years of school just to be denied. My school conducted a background check on me when I entered, and everything was fine, but they only go back 5 years. Does anyone have any advice? I have looked into getting these convictions expunged, but have been told by several lawyers that they can not be expunged. Tennessee is very hard on people with convictions. Has anyone with convictions similar to these been able to get an RN license in TN?
Anyone have any advice?

i really wish i could help. i've looked up some info, but nothing that i think would ease your mind. so, my suggestion is to see an attorney that deals specifically with nursing licensure. use this link to do a search on this website https://ampecommerce.goamp.com/taanarp/neweseries/source/Members/cMemberSearch.cfm?activesection=customer
i see two listed for your state. one is in nashville and the other chattanooga. you may be able to get a phone consultation. i really miss TN..... good luck
Thanks for the link. I finally spoke with someone at the board of nursing and she said my convictions shouldn't keep me from getting my RN. But 'shouldn't' wasn't really what I was wanting to hear. She didn't sound like she had an answer. All I can do at this point is finish up school and submit everything to the BON and hope and pray they approve me.
