Shenandoah University Accelerated BSN

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hi everyone!

So i just got accepted to Shenandoah University's accelerated BSN program and I am very excited! I am from California so Virginia is a long way away but I am looking to live in another state for a year :)

I was wondering if anyone else got in to SU and what their thoughts on the program were? I have heard mixed reviews; however there is a 95% pass rate and it is actually more reasonably priced than other schools I have been looking at so it is one of my top options!

Would love to hear more if you are considering SU as well!

Thanks!

Sorry, haven't checked this in a while! Anyway, since your deposit has been posted you're already a step ahead of what I had to deal with so you're well on your way :)

First thing, have you gotten a bill yet? If so, I'd suggest trying to start applying for loans (if you're getting a loan that is) and getting everything squared away with Financial Aid. In my experience, everything with them takes forever.

Also, have you gotten any information about registering for classes? I think your adviser will do all of that for you, but I'm not sure if they've changed the policy.

Other than those two things there's not really too much else to do at the moment. You could buy uniforms and such, but you'll find there's a lot of things you won't need the first semester. In my case, I didn't need the uniform at all. Also, there is an app for the phone they want you to buy - most people I know don't use it but prefer free apps instead.

Also, when it comes to the bundle of books, I honestly found 6/8 to be a waste. In fact, two of them my professors said flat out we would never use. If you want to buy/rent books, it might be easier to do them separately from wherever they can be found cheapest. Even with the two that were helpful, I used them maybe 3 times all semester.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this is helpful at all so I'll stop here but feel free to ask questions! :)

Which books did you find to be most wasteful? I am buying books right now and don't want to get what I absolutely will not need.

I am trying to take a CPR certification class through American Heart Association. Do you know which class to choose?

I took my class through my employer so didn't have to worry about it. Just make sure it's the "for healthcare providers" version.

To be quite honest, everything but pharmacology and pathophysiology. They were the only two books I used all semester. My roommate, on the other hand, only used pharm and did quite well. She also noticed some errors in the patho study guide, so you might want to avoid that if you were thinking about getting the study guide.

Thanks! Do you know what color scrubs we would need and your of shoes? I would like to buy somethings this weekend since its tax free.

I was accepted late and am super confused as well. apparently there is a orientation on the 23rd and have no idea what time to go or what to do. This process has been a little hectic for me. I am just going to wait to buy books/scrubs/etc. I have gotten to the point where I just want to go there and talk to someone in person.

SU Nursing uniform patch on left shoulder of all tops and jackets (available in bookstore)

I got this uniform information from the uniform policy that is posted on Blackboard. I would suggest trying to find it because the whole uniform policy is listed there. There should be an announcement on BB with a link to the policy. Hope this helped!

Have you received an information packet from SU yet? The packet will provide orientation info and a lot of other info as well. I would just make sure the school knows which campus you would like to attend so they can register you for the right campus and send you the correct packet. I was registered for the Winchester campus, but I wanted to attend the Leesburg campus so I called and they changed it for me. If you haven't received the packet yet then I would suggest giving them a call just so that you have dates and can plan accordingly.

Where on blackboard did you find this? I've been looking for it.

And, if y'all want to see the packet for Leesburg I can always email it to you...just let me know your email.

At the top right of the blackboard homepage, click on your name and go to 'organizations.' You should see a link for school of nursing students. The uniform guidelines is posted under the student handbook link on the left hand side.

Thats weird, I only see Academic Affairs and SGA. I'll have to contact someone to see how they can fix that because that doesn't seem right. Thanks!

Can't believe orientation is tomorrow and classes begin Monday! Good luck everyone!
