  1. "That patient couldn't have fallen, I ordered him to be on bedrest."
  2. I am applying to an FNP program, but am STUMPED by the essay prompt: Critical thinking skills are an essential aspect of leadership in nursing. Describe a specific example of a conflict you have experienced in your professional role in which you utilized critical thinking skills to resolve an issue. Why do you see this as an effective us of critical thinking? I can come up with a couple examples but don't think I can talk about my thought process for 2-3 pages. I feel like I'm probably overthinking this. Also, I'm a career changer nurse. My first career was in Operations so I have a TON of examples to talk about. Do you think it's OK to use a non-nursing example?
  3. I took my class through my employer so didn't have to worry about it. Just make sure it's the "for healthcare providers" version.
  4. I got my letter - didn't get in Luckily, I had decided to accept my admission offer to Shenandoah. I couldn't get my five kids to day care and be in class by 7:30 at GMU! Good luck to the rest of you!
  5. Hi All! I'm going to be starting Shenandoah's 2nd degree program in Leesburg this Fall. Anyone else? Rachel
  6. The official answer is the end of April, but in the info session I attended, the admissions woman said the middle of April. In one of the past years (I saw on a thread on this site) they received them around the 6th! I was accepted to GMU months ago - I couldn't imagine the double anxiety of waiting for two letters!
  7. Is anyone else stalking their mailman lately? I hover in the door when it's about that time to rush out and see if my letter is here yet! Another day, another disappointment.... Maybe tomorrow!
  8. How did you hear that?? That makes a big difference!
  9. I'm a little late to the party, but I was recently accepted to the ABSN program for Fall 2013. My 1st degree GPA was 2.8 but my prerequisite gpa is 4.0 and I score a 97% (99% tile) on the TEAS. I sent my initital application in late November, fall grades were sent mid-December, and I got a verbal acceptance in early January. My acceptance letter came in February. (provisional - based on satisfactory completion of all pre-reqs)
  10. Hopefully ALL of the professors are better than otters. Couldn't resist
  11. Oh that's phenomenal about your TEAS score! The admissions lady at Shenandoah said she had never seen a score so high - she's going to get her socks blown off when she sees another one! You're in for sure.
  12. Thank you for the info sKris! The schedule is the biggest worry of mine right now. I have kids too, it's very frustrating not being able to know what childcare I will need. I've heard the same complaint about disorganization and clinical sites changing at the last minute about Shenandoah. Also, I had a friend who went to Xray school and I remember her not finding out about clinicals until the last minute too! I think it's just (unfortunately) the norm. There are a TON of things that have to be set up to get 50 people into a clinical site. I wouldn't want to do it!! Selisa - Shenandoah set up the prospective students page on SU.edu right away but they haven't updated it since! I applied around the end of November and I received my verbal acceptance the middle of January. At that time they were still waiting for my transcripts from Fall semester. To be completely honest though, (and sorry for the brag!) I scored in the 99%tile on the TEAS so I think my acceptance was kind of a no-brainer :) What's the third program you're applying to?
  13. I agree! April can't get here fast enough! I'm feeling confident about my application, but am still nervous. I have already been accepted to Shenandoah's 2nd degree and that is my back up. GMU is my first choice b/c it's shorter, cheaper, and closer!
