Sexual dysfuntion in ALS

This may not fit this forum but here goes. A pt with ALS, still able to use slide board to get into w/c, is having (how do I put this delicately) finishing what his wife can start. Is there some medication that would help with ejectulation? It is very disturbing for him. With ALS he has lost control (little by little) every function. But this especially seems to be hard for him to deal with. He is also new to Morphine to assist with his breathing. Could this also be causing a dysfuntion with sexual performance? I thought may this site would most likely be able to help since it is a neuro disease.

Dont Mean To Be Dumm But I Am From Uk What Does Als Stand For??

Sounds Like Needs A Review Of Meds, And Discussion With Medical Staff May Help.

May Need To Look Into Some Health Promotion?

If I Knew What Asl Meant I Might Be Able To Help More?

In UK ALS is referred to as "motor neuron disease."

what is als

amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (als), often referred to as "lou gehrig's disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. the progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in als eventually leads to their death. when the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. with voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

lou gehrig first brought national and international attention to the disease in 1939 when he abruptly retired from baseball after being diagnosed with als. most commonly, the disease strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and as many as 30,000 americans have the disease at any given time.

Mazzi, did you find a solution?

ALS affects most of the muscles of the body but reportedly has no effect on the sex organs. This is perhaps more frustrating than satisfying for the patient unable to move arms and legs.

In this particular case, the wife is willing to provide assistance with alternative methods. The state of the patients overall condition, his age if older, other medicines may inhibit a satisfactory release or orgasm.

It may be helpful if the patient were to try viagra or cialis. Either may be effective in as little as 30 minutes in stimulating a firmer erection.
