  1. Mazzi, did you find a solution? ALS affects most of the muscles of the body but reportedly has no effect on the sex organs. This is perhaps more frustrating than satisfying for the patient unable to move arms and legs. In this particular case, the wife is willing to provide assistance with alternative methods. The state of the patients overall condition, his age if older, other medicines may inhibit a satisfactory release or orgasm. It may be helpful if the patient were to try viagra or cialis. Either may be effective in as little as 30 minutes in stimulating a firmer erection.
  2. als definition amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (als) is a serious neurological disease that causes muscle weakness, disability and eventually death. als is often called lou gehrig's disease, after the famous baseball player who died of it in 1941. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/amyotrophic-lateral-sclerosis/ds00359/updateapp=false&flushcache=0 what is als amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (als), often referred to as "lou gehrig's disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. the progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in als eventually leads to their death. when the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. with voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. lou gehrig first brought national and international attention to the disease in 1939 when he abruptly retired from baseball after being diagnosed with als. most commonly, the disease strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and as many as 30,000 americans have the disease at any given time. www.alsa.org
  3. It became an issue because "they did bring it up." I do object to an earlier comment that an erection is gross.
  4. Is there a scientific way of determining the correct size? An intermittent catheter used simply for draining would not need to be exact size of the uretha; it could be smaller. With a Foley or other indwelling catheter, there could be leakage if it was too small. If a patient needed an FR 22, would this be determined by trial and error as one worked up from an fr 16? Or would a doctor use a medical sound? or tape measure? or?
  5. There are different width sizes of intermittent and indwelling catheters as from fr14 to fr 30 or perhaps more. The patient must consult with a nurse or other appropriate medical professional for the correct size. Perhaps, most males may use an fr 16 or fr18. But how is it determined what is the correct catheter size?
