Sexist English Teacher

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am currently taking all my pre-reqs and have English Comp I which is of course required. However, my english teacher is a JERK! Our first day, he started talking about his ex-wife and "women" in general. He said that he usually gives the girls a hard time but this year he has decided to pick on the boys so he wont have any complaints. GRR I did an essay for him that I worked on VERY hard. If he doesnt have time to grade it in class (IN FRONT of the class) you go to his office and he grades it. Well I went to his office and he said my title wasnt catchy enough so he gave me an 86%. He asked if I thought it was a fair grade and I said no, that it was a well written essay, even if he didnt think the title was "catchy". He then proceeded to ask me if I was going to cry. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY?!?!? And by the way, he gave a male friend of mine a 100%. (who didnt spend near as much time on his). This is so frustrating, he is totally messing with my future. The nursing program here is SO hard to get into. This is so frustrating, I know there is nothing I can do, just needing to vent! :) thanks

IF this teacher is giving REAL feedback....

For all the criticism I received on any of my papers, I have become a much better writer because of it.

Hahaha, by the way.... When I saw the title of this thread I read "Sexiest English Teacher". I only just realized it was about a sexist teacher. :chuckle

Oh, and good luck!

Had a english teacher like that once. Rumor had it that he could not get one little complaint or he was out of there. He was the rudest and the most degrading man I have ever come in contact with. A lot of people liked him and I tried to get along with him. He was very prejudice and that was the last straw for me. I reported him and last I heard he was seen in the unemployment line. I can deal with a lot of things, but being prejudice burns me up. I felt bad, but I had to do what I had to do. I refused to let him intimidate me. He wanted me to drop and I did not give him the satisfaction.

Obviously, no one should have to put up with being treated disrespectfully. I hope you and your classmates can address that issue with the appropriate people at your school.

I do have one comment though, all things being equal (ie, the assignment was approached conscientiously, etc.) grades, especially writing grades, are often not correlational to the amount of time someone spends on the assignment. Some folks write well, faster than others, some folks are faster in math, some folks are better dancers...well, you get the idea. If I spend more time on my writing assignment than you did, well, I don't necessarily get a better grade.

Peace,

Cathie
