Seton Hall University - CNL 2014

Published

Hello,

I recently got accepted to Seton Hall University's direct entry clinical nurse leader program. I started a thread because I didn't see another one and would like to discuss the program with others, and make sure we're all on track for the fall!

Tellio015,

I am so sorry you did not get accepted, that does not seem fair your interview had to be held over the phone due to whether, that is just terrible! Thank you though so much for getting back to me, I appreciate your help and info as I am trying to prepare for some questions they will ask. They let you know right away that they did not accept you? That seems so soon for them to let you know.

No apologies. And it was my mistake for going with the phone interview but the snow had public transportation messed up. They don't let you know right away. I was told I would get a email in a few weeks. I knew by the way she said it that it wouldn't be a good email. I ended up getting a letter in the mail a few weeks after. I do know someone who got the email of acceptance the day after their interview. My best advice, don't be nervous or at least don't show it, speak clearly and confidently, and don't ramble. Best of luck, I hope you get accepted.

Thank you again for the help and advice you provided me with, best of luck to you in all your endeavors.

Thank you.

Hey all,

I just wanted to let you know my experience. I've been accepted to the program and I did a phone interview(since I'm not from NJ). The phone interview wasn't bad at all. They did like what tellio15 said, ask about my grades from undergrad but I had a good reason to support why I did poorly at the time. The two ladies who interviewed me were super helpful and answered all my questions. I received an acceptance email about 2-3 weeks after my phone interview and the official letter came in the following week. I have direct patient care at my current job which was useful when it came down to specific questions about leadership.

Good luck to everyone applying! I wish there were more talk about the Seton Hall CNL program on this forum! Hope this helps!

Hi Mickey_123,

First, CONGRATS on your acceptance! Second, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR INFORMATIVE POST! I have been nonstop worrying about the interview ever since I got the email that I had one! I have good explanations to my grades that were subpar in my undergrad and great reasons for why I am making the switch into nursing and why Seton Hall. I am worried about typical interview questions that I will have to answer on the spot. Did they ask you anything along those lines? I want to better prepare and brush up on things like that so I don't seem totally nervous. Also, what do you mean questions about leadership? Anything in specific.

Thanks again, I appreciate any help!

Vicki

Hi vicki089!

Thanks so much! The interview seemed informational so I wasn't sure how I felt after the interview but it was far from confident. lol Do not worry! The ladies were easy to talk to and they want you to have a clear understanding of what you're getting yourself into. They asked me to give an example of a time I did held a leadership role. (or something similar to that). But they do ask typical interview questions. I suggest googling most popular nursing interview questions, reviewing the school website and just having some prepared answered ready!

When is your interview? Good luck! :)

Oh no, far from confident how?! That scares me, ha. I have done a lot of research on the CNL role in healthcare systems and looked up Seton Hall's program specifically. I have been reviewing interview questions from this site, this post in specific: https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/16-common-nursing-962531.html ..how do those look to you, something along the lines they asked? Sorry for all my questions, I want to do well and know I freeze up easily without practice and being caught of guard!

Thank you! My interview is March 8th, it's in person because I live fairly close.

I don't recall those questions from the link you shared asked at my interview. Some interviews are standard.. they ask the same questions to all their applicants but I felt that this interview was more personal. They look at your application and ask specific questions so they get a better understanding of your application and you as an individual. It is fine to take a second to think about your answer but don't use um or like as space fillers. What really caught me off guard was the question about my grades, or maybe how it was asked. But other than that, I think everything flowed! To prep- I looked at the website, practiced questions like "tell me about yourself" or "why do you want to be a CNL". Treat it as a job interview and you'll be fine! :)

Great, thanks so much!! I think I can do this! :D

I started this program in the fall of 2015 and will be graduating this summer. Any questions, please let me know via PM. I commented on this post prior to beginning this program, and I haven't checked the posting until a year later, so you can email me at [email protected]

Best of luck to all.

Thanks so much katveee. I PM-ed you. Talk to you soon!
