2 Seperate MSN degrees

Published

Hey I am a pre-nursing student in philly and I plan on going to both Temple and Drexel after I get my RN license. I eventually want to do both women's health nurse practitioning and nurse anesthesis so I will need 2 seperate masters. Has anyone ever done this? And does anyone think that it is a stupid idea? They are both what I really want to do and even though its not like i can do both at the same time, the ability to do both eases my mind. Any suggestons or comments?

Why would you want to do that? Kindly elaborate. In some cases it might make sense, but probably not for most.

I just reread your post. I think you need to make up your mind. The CRNA avenue is grueling and time consuming. You probably would have a difficult time engaging in what is actually two different careers.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Both women's health and CRNA are two branches of the advanced practice nurse (APN) designation.

My advice, do the CRNA where you will get your MSN, then go back and pick up a WHNP as a post-MSN.

I have an MSN in management and leadership.

Then, I went back for a post-MSN certificate as an adult health CNS

Then, I am back again for another post-MSN certificate as a peds CNS

Kinda stupid on my part but these are the choices I made.

Honestly, even though it sounds stupid, the reason for doing so is I like options. CRNA is extremly interesting to me but WHNP is my passion. I want to do both but not necessarily at the same time. The thing is i want to get my schooling out of the way now. I don't want to do one and then in like 20 years have to go back to school. I just want to be able to re-certify. They are both 2 completly different careers but I know how I am and I would want to switch it up sooner or later.
