Is anyone going to the open houses? I'm scheduled to go next week and I am eager to hear about the new requirements. I wonder how many credits we need in order to apply and what the pricing will be like?
I dont really think that it matters. Just dig in. I can tell you that I took both Hum A&P I&II prior to me taking micro this fall. I have started reading the micro book and I feel like I have a better grasp as I have already learned a lot about the diseases and process through Hum A&P. I have been told that chm and micro go hand in hand during the first couple of weeks... I will let you know how it goes when I start this fall....
Hey Taandoh you don't need Ethics for Riverside's program but you do need English 111. My daughter is taking her pre-req's now. Look at their website to verify. All the other courses are correct. You can also take A&P 145 through Riverside and it is only one semester. That will meet their A&P requirement as well. But, you cannot take Microbiology before you take A&P. Good luck!
NO you do not have to take bio 101 or 01 before you take bio 150. I did take high school biology a looooong time ago and earned an A. I just bought a cliff note book about microbiology to assist me.
Agreed. Microbio is so specific--you're focusing on bacteria, viruses, etc. and not much else--that you really don't need to take a college-level bio right before it. Though if you think you need a brush-up on the biology basics, get a bio review book from your local library and use that. I also took my Microbio many years after I took my last biology class and I had no problems getting an A.
Meriwhen, there were quite a few RN's looking at the program when I went. They were apply that day and had all their transcripts and records. Good LuckCyn
I liked what I heard there so I applied. My grades are good, I have all my sciences done and only have a couple of the non-critical prereq classes to finish...so we'll see if I'll be joining the class of 2012(?) with the rest of you :)

actually you can take micro before Hum A&P. I know several people that have went to TCC and took Micro 150 first. When I started at TCC I also was told that it didnt matter what I took first A&P or Micro just to get started. You are absolutely correct about not needing ethics ... Thats what I get for thinking off the top of my head. I have completed so many pre reqs for some many different programs I tend to get them confused!!!
Ahh, at TNCC they won't let you take micro before anatomy or even at the same time. My daughter tried because that throws her a whole semester behind from starting. But it sounds like TCC will. I don't see where it matters which you take first. Anyhow, I am sure you all will get there and in a couple of years or so will be graduating! One thing at a time.
Yes, I would like to hear more about Riverside as well. I like the clinical advantages it seems to have over other schools. The Sentara BSN program sounds like it's a great opportunity, but it just seems like so much time. I added up the total costs of tuition plus pre-reqs(minus uniforms/books/etc.) and Sentara is about $1400 more than Riverside, which isn't much for a BSN vs. a diploma. But especially adding in the CNA thing - which I didn't know about- it sounds like it would be too time consuming for those who have to continue working.
Hey everyone, I was just reading about Sentara's BSN program and had a few questions...
I'm from out of state contemplating a move to VA. I have all my classes except A&PI and II, and ENG II. Maybe a few Fine Arts classes here and there. Do you think it would be worth applying to Sentara's BSN program? Since I'm already an LPN, would I have to take the CNA test??? Thanks.

Yes... Riverside doesnt have a waiting list. The classes you need for riverside are: Hum A&P I &II, Micro 150, Intro Psych, Intro Sociology, Developmental Psych, College level Math (100 or higher) and Ethics. These are basically the same as sentara old program. They have a rolling application process. Offer program twice a year in Jan and July. They also offer an evening and weekend program that meets on Tues and Thurs and every other weekend. You cant beat that if you are like me still need to work full time!
