Good Evening Ladies and Gents,
I am interviewing for a position on floor 5A at SNGH. Any inside information would be great in regards to the floor itself.
Thanks,
BA

RUN!!!! 5A is not the place to work. High stress levels, short handed the the time. Ur choice and the rooms are tiny. If u want to get ur foot in the door thats fine. But make sure u head for another dept within six months. Good Luck
You are so right. This floor thrives primarily on how fast you can run your ass off, pass meds, fill out flow sheets etc... It's incredibly frustrating as the nurses on this floor might as well be nurses aides. I know nursing is inherently busy, but there is little time to even think on this floor and there is a *clear* lack of professionalism.
Ughh.:mad::mad::mad::down:
I know. I could name a few on days and nights. But that would be unprofessional of me:(
HAHA! Tell me, what constitutes 6 months? Is it from your hire date or does it start from the time you are off orientation? How do I go about transferring? Do I need my manager's permission?:rolleyes:
Yes, from the start date(anniversary date on your stub). If you transfer, apply first, go through the interview process and thats it, just wait for that phone call. You will need to notify your manager about the transfer or she wouldn't put in a good word for you. And that will suck. But, you're not obligated to give a reason besides the convenience. If you can, it's better to go to an icu than stepdown.

I was wondering if you ever transferred? Was it easy or did the manager give you a hard time? Is 5RP just as bad as 5A? I was trying to see if there was a difference between 5A, 5RP, and 5K on Sentara's website but they seem the same. Right now positions are open for 5RP and I'm getting desperate in finding a job as a new grad RN.
