Sentara BSN 2018 applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I'm noticed there hasn't been a Sentara 2018 applicants post on here yet. I'm just curious if there's anyone else on this website who applied for the BSN program starting in January?

Best of luck!

Thanks!! No, sorry. I live in va beach

Is anyone else aware that the Sentara nursing program is having accreditation issues? I plan on becoming a NP in the future and seriously considering if I want to go to Sentara... They do not have a good accreditation, its ABHES. I have been doing research on this type and no schools will take credits for this degree... It is very disappointing, now I am having second thoughts.

Mizzy92 , yeah their accreditation has concerned me a little. Especially because they aren't regionally accredited so it would be very difficult to find a graduate program to accept it, if any at all. I've contemplated it a lot because I'm not set on furthering my nursing education after my BSN although I'd like to at least have the option.. but I am not sure we would have much of an option with sentara í ½í¸“

Yeah thats exactly how I feel. I have been waitlisted at ODU but do not want to wait 2 more years to get an RN license. I will most likely stay in the program, because I want to have my BSN before moving to Florida. I am working on a BSHS in Health Service Management, and should be done with most of the classes before I start at Sentara. Hopefully another bachelors will help if I ever do want to become a NP. Atleast they have a CCNE accreditation.

Same here! I've already waited so long that I just want to get a program over with. I am more than half way through a biology degree at ODU so I suppose I could always finish that and look at other programs if I wish to continue

I was also worried about this, however they are changing our curriculum for class of 2020. This probably means they are making adjustments to comply and keep their accreditations. Fingers crossed they keep CCNE because I heard that one is really important for getting your MSN.

Thank you for that information, that makes me feel better about it!

Hi everyone! I also am starting at sentara in January and also have plans to further my education with an MSN or DNP so thought I'd jump into the conversation. Which graduate/doctorate programs are you all looking into? Most I've seen have specified either CCNE accredited BSN or a nationally accredited BSN required for admission. Isn't sentara both of those? Maybe I'm looking at different schools, but this conversation freaked me out a bit! Has anyone contacted graduate schools and asked or talked to someone at sentara about this?

I have contacted major universities in different states about the accreditation issues. Most respected universities will not take a BSN degree without an ACEN or CCNE national accreditation, as well as a REGIONAL accreditation. The important factor being that ABHES is a national accreditation, so big universities will not accept a BSN degree with this type of accreditation. I've done some research, some schools will accept you with a current RN and state license with a degree from a CCNE/ACEN accreditation into a MSN program, but not into a DNP program. It just definitely reduces the amount of options available when a school doesn't have a regional accreditation. Definitely something to consider. For me it just means I might have to look into different programs at universities and it narrows down options.

I'm been looking at schools in Florida though, state schools like USF, UCF, UF. I believe it just depends what school. I don't think it's anything to worry about, as long as you know what is needed for the graduate school you plan on attending.

Oh I see, I've looked at more MSN online programs rather than DNP and that might be why I haven't had this issue yet. I contacted ODU and they said Sentara's BSN is accepted there, but that's the only school I've contacted directly. I have a B.S. so maybe I can fall back on that, but it's still a little disheartening that the BSN might not be accepted :/

Hi everyone! I need some information on where can I get my fingerprints rolled? I know about the police station but some say it takes a while so is there an alternative place I can get it done?
