My husband talked about putting her down but with exception of the eye problem she is still a reasonably happy dog. She eats well, plays in a limited way and elimination pattrerns are good. My dogs always seem to live a long time. My Yorkies lived well into their 20's, but it makes it that much harder when they start to decline.

So an update - The Princess will see (no pun intended) The canine ocular specialist on June 24. Her eyes are looking a bit better since I have been instilling Saline drops twice a day. Lets hope it's something simple like Chronic dry eye!
Well I certainly can't pay that much out of pocket for a dog that's the equivilent of a 116 year old person. But they have Cyclosporine solution for dogs on Chewy.com for $48.00 which I could afford. Human medicines are more expensive because big pharm gets away with it.
The next hurdle is her skin - so it's supposed to be over 100 degrees today and I am making up some oatmeal and baking soda wash.

OK so the Princess had her appointment Last Thursday. Thankfully no surgery is recomended. She does have ,s I suspected Chronic Dry Eyes which is common in Older Golden Retreivers. Cost after consult fee was a bit over $100.00 and we are now doing 3 different eye drops 3 to 6 times a day. The most expensive one is $80.00 which is because it's compounded. I made up a doggy MAR and inserviced my son. After just two days of treatment she looks so much better.

How does one become a camp nurse?
