I'm getting ready to graduate with my Bachelors in Nursing, and considering joining the Navy.
My husband and I have been married for 10 years with two dependent children. My husband is an E-6.
I have so many questions...
-Are there are certain number of candidates selected for the Nurse Corps, is it as competitive to get into
as nursing school?
-Can I graduate from school (next month) then join? Or does it have to be while I am IN school?
-This wouldn't considered fraternization amongst officer/enlisted correct? As we were previously married?
-In regards to pay, would we receive full BAH for him, and BAH single for me? As we have two
dependent children.
-I understand we cannot be on the same ship/command, but is it likely that we could be stationed
together? I've been researching co-location but any personal input would be appreciated.
-My husband will be overseas for an IA while I would attend ODS, and move on to my first duty station,
upon his return from his IA is it possible he can relocate to my first duty station?
-One last question...our current duty station/surrounding area does not have an officer recruiter/medical
officer recruiter, if I talk with the local enlisted recruiter will I get conflicting information?
Any help/advice would be appreciated!

-are there are certain number of candidates selected for the nurse corps, is it as competitive to get into

-can i graduate from school (next month) then join? or does it have to be while i am in school? not sure of how much experience you need as a rn before you are considered, it is 2 years for the army.
-this wouldn't considered fraternization amongst officer/enlisted correct? as we were previously married? no, since you where married before you obtained your commission.
-in regards to pay, would we receive full bah for him, and bah single for me? as we have two
dependent children. who ever has the highest bah will claim the dependents.
-i understand we cannot be on the same ship/command, but is it likely that we could be stationed
together? i've been researching co-location but any personal input would be appreciated. the services try to station married couples in the same area.
-my husband will be overseas for an ia while i would attend ods, and move on to my first duty station,
upon his return from his ia is it possible he can relocate to my first duty station? depends, hard to say for any service, all depends on the needs of the service.
-one last question...our current duty station/surrounding area does not have an officer recruiter/medical
officer recruiter, if i talk with the local enlisted recruiter will i get conflicting information? yes, yes, yes, stay away from the enlisted recruiters, their goal is to enlist you not for you to become an officer.

Thanks for the replies, I've been curious about a couple of these questions as well.
Thanks so much for your replies! So...since an enlisted recruiter is obviously not who I need to talk to, does anyone know is is acceptable to just speak to an officer medical recruiter on the phone? I currently live in Hawaii, and there are none on island, the closed officer recruiter is in San Diego.

Sure - I never met my recruiter in person until I went for my interview (about 6 mos after I started working with him). They are busy and so being able to walk into an office may be helpful, but it isn't necessary. Good luck!

If you have your BSN in Nursing then you'd join the reserves as an officer unless you do want to enlist. Reserves youd have peace of mid you'd be close to your family at all times and can have a civilian job as well ; may it be at the base hospital or something . I have been reading for the last couple of months and will be choosing navy reserves . Speak w a health recruiting officer not just a recruiting office and any personnel they have direct numbers for officers . Also look into getting some of your schooling paid back there are a few options ; good luck !
