Sending job applications but going on a vacation

Published

I'm graduating this May 2014 and I terribly need everyone's input. I going to take a 3-week out-of-the-country vacation right after I passed my boards (my graduation gift). Should I start looking for jobs now or wait until I come back? I'm just so worried that if apply now and get a call sooner that they would reject me because of the planned vacation I already arranged. I also don't want to be rejected because they called me while I was away. On the other hand, I don't want to wait that long like after I come back to send my applications because I know it is already late. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Apply to jobs now, and talk to your phone provider to see if they have a plan that lets you take calls from outside the country. Let the places you want to work at call you and worry about what you will do when the time comes.

Can you email during your trip? Perhaps you can specify on your outgoing voicemail greeting that you are out of the country but still checking email.

Specializes in Wound Care.

I would apply now and follow up with anyone via e-mail and phone if they happen to call. IF they do call to schedule an interview let them know when you will be back and ask if you can do a phone interview and setup a face to face when you return.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I would start now. The worst that happens is you miss SOME opportunities, but you wouldn't miss all of them. I graduate in May as well, and I started applying in Feb.
