I'm in my first semester and I'm struggling to make it to the end of the semester. I'm actually considering picking another major because I just can't seem to catch a break for anything. Hopefully this semster will end up great and I'll have the strength to try for a second semester.
LWildman, don't let that first semester get to you. Just stay on track. If you really want to be a nurse and are enjoying the clinical part, just work hard to get through the lecture part and you will make it. Remember, once you have your license, no one is going to ask you what grade you got. Its "are you licensed, are you breathing, great, here are some patients".
As for me, I am in the middle of my second semester of a 4 semester ADN program and this semester has been kicking my butt. HOWEVER, It is all starting to pull together now and I am getting my confidence back. Starting first semester in spring and then having the summer off kind of threw me off on the clinical end. But I feel much more confident now. I also start doing student nursing at one of the local hospitals here in town in the middle of November. Its cool because this hospital set up a "resource pool" (or float pool for those who know the traditional language) for nursing students to work with their "not so flexible" schedule. We self-schedule ourselves to work when we can and we get benefits like shadowing a nurse, checking out different departments and utilizing some of our procedural skills that we are learning in school (i.e., dc'ing iv's, cath starts and dc's, sterile dressing changes, etc). Its awesome how this hospital works with us. I hope the hospitals in your areas are doing the same things or similar. Well, I have to go study for my Fluid and Electrolyte/Acid-Base exam on Monday. . .Laters.

Nearly at the end of 2nd semester of a 3 year RN program. I have my nursing exam on wednesday and then a pharmacology exam on monday (we only have exams at the end of the semester), then clinical for two weeks (we do our clinicals in blocks). Then i am finished for the year except i must be a glutton for punishment as i have signed up to do a subject over the chrissy holidays.
good luck everyone and hang in there.
