semester before nursing school

Published

I'm taking 16 hours this fall before I apply and hopefully start nursing school in the spring. I've never taken this many before and don't want to mess up my 3.83 GPA. Has anyone taken 16 hours and made all As? Need some motivation/advice!

I once took 20 credit hours and got better grades than when I took 15 or 16. One of those classes was even a nursing class. I think I did better because I always had to do something so I never got lazy, prioritized my tasks, and got really good with time management. However, it also depends on what classes you are taking. If you're taking all science class, I salute you. If your classes are somewhat like history, english, maybe one science course, then I think you are golden.

Ok thanks! I'm taking 1 science, 1 math, 1 english, 1 history, and speech. EEEk

I had 15 credits one semester, but 3 of my classes were labs that had homework like regular classes. It was more like a 21-hour class load, and I had ROTC on top of it. I made it through--it just takes determination.

And while you're at it, don't forget to have some fun every now and then. Not taking time for yourself will burn you out quick!

I took 17 credits (6 classes) in the Fall semester and maintained a 4.0, so it's do-able. You just have to stay very organized. I took: Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Microbiology Lab, Intro to Health Professions and Human Growth & Development.

I highly suggest getting a planner and writing down all your exam dates, quiz dates and homework due dates (plus any papers you have to write). Then in the spaces in between, schedule your study time accordingly. It makes it more manageable to keep up when you know exactly what you need to do each day.

Good luck to you :)

I promise you, it's do able! Last semester I took 18 credits (3 of which were sciences), I worked 16 hours a week and have 2 kids & a boyfriend. I made all As! It can be done! Study a little bit each day/ night and even more the weekend before an exam and you should be good! Good luck! I hope to start my BSN program in the spring too!

Thank you all so much! I feel better! :)

Yep, doable. I took 18 and got all As. Of course, then I started nursing school and my 4.0 went bye-bye.
