Self scheduling and sick calls!

Does anyone know of any article or study that investigates a possible correlation between RN self scheduling and fewer sick calls? Just curious! Thanks!

Semi-off topic. My ANM would prefer for everyone to list their days off. We go by the every-other-weekend system. I just list which days I want off and then anything blank means I am available. My ANM says its a lot easier and time efficient. That way everyone is happy.

My unit has been doing self scheduling for over a year now. The folks that call in sick all the time...still call in all the time. As much as they can without getting a write-up. And I still only call in when I have to, which is maybe two times a year. We are also required to work every third weekend, everyone has a set weekend, so there is always weekend coverage. I don't really feel that self-scheduling makes a difference for call outs. The ones that call out when truly sick can't control when they can't come in and the others don't care.
