I am exploring ideas for a graduate school capstone project. I would like to know if you were taught how to take care of yourself in nursing school, i.e.how to prevent burnout and stress reduction techniques. If you were, how did it impact your nursing career? If you were not, how did it impact your nursing career? Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.

Oh if only I had had that... I grad in 81 and burnt out in 85! I ended up having mental health problems (not as a result but surely the stress and not knowing how to cope didn't help). Was able to go back to work off and on but I was never the same.
What does that mean, "capstone"?
I am so sorry your nursing career has been so difficult for you. Thank you so much for being willing to give me feedback.
A capstone project is an independent project at the end of graduate school. Mine needs to focus on education and nursing in some form. I am considering designing a course on self care for nurses which is why I am trying to find out if there is a need for this sort of course.
Thank you again for you in-put.

Gosh yeah! I think it's an EXCELLENT idea!
You know what might be useful? There are two polls done on Allnurses with statistics that you may be able to use in your paper. The second one was associated with a thread I started. Though they appear to be the same thing they are actually two different surveys. Try:

Take care, hope you can use this! Let me know how it turns out, I would be very interested!

We have a required 2 credit hour course as part of the nursing program. Self care is also a main theme in another 3 hours class, tho not the main emphasis.
I think the self-care class is great!

Thank you so much for the suggestion on the poll results. Any supporting information I can get to show a need for this kind of course is extremely helpful.
