My psychiatrist gave me wellbutrin to help with percoset withdrawal from two very painful recent operations. The Welbutren when mixed with alcohol caused me to have a seizure. It also is causing my eyes to be unable to focus, nervousness, lack of concentration, severe depression and crying. Anyone ever hear of this? I have been taking it for two weeks and the longer I take it the worse the symptomes are. thanks Krissy
Yeah, we were told in Pharm that Wellbutrin had a high seizure rate. In fact, it was even on one of our tests. I think it was 0.04% seizure rate. Our pharm teacher said that once the people found out that their med had such a high rate that they just changed their name from zyban to wellbutrin.
Wellbutrin is a med, like all others, that needs to be respected. It is a med that can lower a person's seizure threshold; therefore, it is a med that can increase the risk of seizure occurence. As a educational piece, DO NOT drink alcohol while being on psychotropic meds. If you drink while on these meds, you sabotage your progress to recovery.
My Dr. gave me the Wellbutrin, because he said it helps the detox symptoms even in smoking withdrawal. I have spoken to my family, and they all had bad side effects with wellbutrin. My Dr. told me that one glass of wine with dinner is fine, and if I felt dizzy to stop drinking it. I have an appt. with my dr. tomorrow, so we will see what he says. I am definitelly stopping the wellbutrin. I do know that in psychtropic drugs, they work differently in different people. I would like to tell you what my dr. says, but the staff doesn't want me to discuss this topic anymore. Thank you for caring.
Sorry about your situation. Wellbutrin or not you were going to seize, best wishes.
