I am confused. You are a recent graduate from an Accelerated BSN program and you have previous college/degree. I am confused about you not knowing what position or facility you are applying for...most facilities will test ALL new employees/RN's to document the nurses competency for drugs that are common to the area you will be working. The facility needs to document that you can figure dosages and whether or not you can do drug calculations.Hmm that is strange but probably right. I don't have any info as to who the employer is until I pass. So I guess review pharm math and scenarios ?
As a nurse you will be tested yearly on your units requirements. For example: As an ICU nurse I would be tested about critical care drugs, document basic EKG monitoring with interventions. These tests are not usually in depth analysis but it will make sure you know how to convert drugs for dosages.
It would be HIGHLY unusual that the Union is the one testing...the Joint Commission and the facility wants testing and proof of competency. Some facilities will also ask common blood transfusion standards of care. I think that you need to investigate what hospital you went to about a job. What jobs have you applied for in the last couple of months? Where do you have to go to take the test?
My suggestions...study calculations. Know some "common" meds like Lasix, Lanoxin, insulin/ long short etc. Don't let this make you anxious. ALL HOSPITALS will test you...it's what they do. Keep it pretty simple and breathe. Find out what kind of facility it is that you are testing.....Long Term Acute care, Acute care, SNF? Look up their mission statement so you can mold your answers for what they desire.
A word of caution....be careful what you post. The site is anonymous but it is very easy to figure out if you know someone. While we use different names...this site can be seen by the general public and will index with google. Some facilities feel if someone gave you what is exactly on the test would be considered cheating/unprofessional. ((HUGS))
Good Luck!

Hi,
So I will be meeting with 1199 for possible jobs but before that I have to take a test. I'm thinking its probably pharm with some math, but i'm not too sure.
I was just told there would be a test.
I was hoping if anyone on here would know what is usually on the exam and what I should focus my studying on?
