Seeking Valuable Advice in Jax FL, Which Program/ School to enroll in?

Hello to everyone,

I have been reading many topics in this forum & I find everyone to have such helpful advice. I have been thinking for a long time now about enrolling into a program for nursing. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Graphics/ Fine Arts from NY. I recently found out there's a program where you can enroll with any type of bachelors BA or BS & enroll in a Second Degree Program which will let you earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in a shorter amount of time. So since I have a bachelor I am thinking of going for this. I have heard that Jacksonville U offers it, I was originally thinking about entering FCCJ for the RN Associates Degree. But now I don't know what to do ? Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated.

I have a Master's degree in an unrelated field. Once you have or you are taking the pre-reqs you can apply. I have been accepted to JU and interviewd at UNF. UNF is my first choice due to cost. Hope this helps.

Yes I just found out that UNF offers the program. I will enroll in a community college like SJRCC or FCCJ & take the pre reqs. Thank you for response trust me it is helpful info. I just recently foudn out UNF has the program to. But I think UNF requires more pre reqs then JU I think UNF requests an extra class. So I may take that class in order to have myself covered. I am starting to research both & I have observed that the accreditation varies from UNF & JU. JU is accredited from the CCNE- Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. UNF is accredited by NLNAC - National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. I think this is what I will base my decision on. I have read the accrediation effects you if you move from state to state I need to seek more info on this matter. So Heath82371 how long has it taken you to take your pre reqs & how long has the procces been (pre reqs , submission of application & so on,) any more info would be greatly appreciated.

HI there. Hopefully this reply is not too late. I am an FCCJ Jacksonville graduate. I was active duty Navy and attended at night time and graduated in 18 months. I started in August 2000, got married that next year in August, and graduated in Dec2001 with a baby on the way. Very doable program as you can see from my circumstances. I was very busy. They also have a day program. I am presently living in CA as a travel nurse. I am in the NICU. My young family travels with me and my husband (he is Navy retired). I am now starting the Jax. University Online RN to BSN program in August. It is exactly the same curriculum as campus students, though pretty expensive. There are many financial options available to you. F.R.A.G: Florida resident access grant . You qualify for this FREE money as long as you are a FLA resident, attending at least full time, AND a private university such as JU, which as you know is accredited.

Oh forgot, regardless of your degree, there are of course certain prereqs which you are required to fullfill. Because of your bachelors degree, you have a wide advantage because you probably have the computer classes, the microbiology, math (now a days it has to be like algebra or math statistics), amongst other prereqs. Let me know what you have already. You should definitely receive transferrable credits.

Anywho I found out I can do the accelerated bachelors degree program @ JU & UNF, & it would be the same amount of time as the program at FCCJ. I listed the pre reqs I have to take in order to enrol into the program below.

I started taking my pre reqs the beginning of this summer & I recently just finished A & P I & I got an A :) in the lecture & lab thank god! I just started A& P II God willing I will get an A ! I was worried beause its a fast paced class not your normal 16 week course its like 6 to 7 weeks. Then I plan to finish all the pre reqs in the fall & spring. So tell me about your experiences as a nurse since you graduated, whats been the most challenging & the most rewarding? Any advice as to what I can anticipate in the near future is really helpful like in the program, naplex getting a job & so on. Do you plan on coming back to Jax anytime soon? Good luck on completing your RN to BSN program online, I heard JU is a really great school. As far as the accrediation no one has still clearly answered that for me JU 'vs' UNF. ? is there a difference between bsn 'vs' rn or is it just a matter of pay? Hope you don't mind if I jump onto your post a little late, but I have a little more adivce to offer you.... :D

I personally went to Jacksonville University to obtain my BSN and I was very happy with the program. Unfortunately, the high cost of tuition does limit the number of applicants willing to attend the school. However, if you are an out of state resident the two schools tuition's are pretty comprable. I know both schools offer financial assitance and scholarships (thank god for scholarships!!!!! :lol2: ) .

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that you really need to analize the break down of what the two schools have to offer. I know I may be a little biased (because I went to JU) but JU is a private school with an excellent reputation in the Jax area. Almost every single one of my fellow graduates had a job before they even graduated, most were hired immediately from their pracitucum experiences!! JU also offers some clinical experiences that are not available at UNF (this may not matter if you are not interested in those fields).

Lastly, a good thing to do before you decied on a school is go to the hospials in the area and ask them which grads they perfer to hire first. I'm not ashamed to say I did it ;) !!! Higher education cost a lot of money and you need to be sure you get a school that meets your needs!
