  1. That information was SUPERB, thank you so very much!!!!!! I am in my RN to BSN program and we have a "role" essay test this next week and I am to research a particular area of nursing and run with it. Any other areas that I can get info on pay, where can nurses work other than hospitals as a Neonatal nurse practioner?? Also, for the neonatal clinical nurse specialist, is that a combined program where I would serve as both an NNP and an Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist?
  2. Hello everyone. I am a NICU Level III nurse. I have been in the NICU setting for about 4 years now, though I was a medic in the Navy for 9 years. I am really confused about what field I want to go into. Is there such thing as a Health Promotion/Wellness CNS? What is the difference between an NNP and a CNS?. What do you need to do to get there? I know that with NNP you have to have a masters and then get your certification in Neonatal medicine. I just don't see myself working in the NICU as an NNP for the rest of my life. I love to teach and I love the high acuity in the NICU. I am just not sure what field of medicine to go into, or where to research the difference areas clinical nurse specialists can work? Any advice?
  3. Welcome to a wonderful site. Look forward to seeing your posts and "chatting" with you. Blessings ALL4JESUS

I am always forgetting to add something!! UGHHHHH I worked for the Naval Hospital Wellness Center and I loved it. I also worked as an aerobics instructor for the gym. The base there has AWESOME facilities, including a beautiful golf course. I am very happy with the care I received there as a staff member and as a spouse of a retiree. I highly recommend that base. My husband was also stationed off of Mayport, closer to the beach, but they only have clinics there. I was never stationed there. Good Luck and God Speed. Oh, were you an AF nurse.?????

Hello Phil. I am a Florida and Jacksonville resident, though I am presently living in CA as a travel nurse with my family. I am a Navy veteran and my husband is Navy retired. I wouldn't really recommend living by the water since there is usually alot of damage during hurricanes. Really think it over and over before you move to Jax Beach or St Johns Bluff area. I am originally from Puerto Rico and I love the water, but not enough to pay what they are asking for that area, nor the risk to property. I also worked at Shands Jax, and enjoyed the challenge and let me tell you, it WAS a challenge, but the experience makes me the nurse I am today. St Luke's is a WONDERFUL facility out by St. Johns Bluff area. I did my clinicals there and was very impressed, but I did not want to do MEd/Surg when i graduated. When I come back to Florida next year I will probably come to St Lukes. There is also that new hospital that opened after I moved to travel, though my home is still there in Jax. Baptist, South. I hear it is a great hospital as well. What specialty are you? About homes in the area. I just purchased a home near Orange Park off of Argyle Forest Blvd. and I love the area. It is growing very quickly. If you are in Jax, look for the Blanding Blvd exit, get off on it going South, When you get to Argyle Forest Blvd (if you see the mall on your left you have gone to far) make a right. Go down that road for about 2-5 miles. You will notice all the new development areas. Really nice areas to live. I built a beautiful home with KB homes. I love my home. I love my neighborhood. Let me know if I can be of help.
  6. Oh forgot, regardless of your degree, there are of course certain prereqs which you are required to fullfill. Because of your bachelors degree, you have a wide advantage because you probably have the computer classes, the microbiology, math (now a days it has to be like algebra or math statistics), amongst other prereqs. Let me know what you have already. You should definitely receive transferrable credits.
  7. HI there. Hopefully this reply is not too late. I am an FCCJ Jacksonville graduate. I was active duty Navy and attended at night time and graduated in 18 months. I started in August 2000, got married that next year in August, and graduated in Dec2001 with a baby on the way. Very doable program as you can see from my circumstances. I was very busy. They also have a day program. I am presently living in CA as a travel nurse. I am in the NICU. My young family travels with me and my husband (he is Navy retired). I am now starting the Jax. University Online RN to BSN program in August. It is exactly the same curriculum as campus students, though pretty expensive. There are many financial options available to you. F.R.A.G: Florida resident access grant . You qualify for this FREE money as long as you are a FLA resident, attending at least full time, AND a private university such as JU, which as you know is accredited. Good Luck and let me know if you need anymore guidance. Blessings
  8. I am actually started the RN to BSN program online at Jax University. Same curriculum as campus students. Were you aware of the Florida Resident Access Grant, also known as FRAG? It is available to full time students enrolled at any Florida Private college. Look into it. Free money.
  9. I started out in the NICU at Shands Jax. It was sooooo stressful, but i am now a travel nurse in CA with my young family. We still have our home out there. I went down to the ER a couple of times. It is very very big and very very busy. Just make sure that you like adrenaline pumping situations. Lots of them. The hospital is not in a very good area of town. As a matter of fact, not a good area AT ALL. Lots of gun shot wounds, and attempted murders, etc... Alot of women come in with NO prenatal care whatsoever and their babies end up in the NICU. Good Luck
  10. Hi there. I actually graduated out of Jacksonville. I lived in Orange Park. I worked in the NICU at Shands Jax. It was an awesome experience and now I am living in California as a travel nurse in the NICU. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old son and my Navy retired husband I travel with. When my mom could not care for my babies anymore I found this wonderful woman that lived off of Collins Road that did a wonderful job with my babies. She is highly recommended. There is an agency out of Jacksonville Beach called PRN or something like that. Look in the phone book under nursing, agency nursing. You will find them. They are typically in the magazine, Healthcare traveler. They are also online. Look under travel nurse or agency nurses on line. Let me know if that helps. God Bless you
  11. I forgot to say I also do not pay utilities.
  12. How long ago did you travel with American Mobile. I have been with American Mobile for over one year now. I have a 2 bedroom apartment I do not pay for. I have a 3 year old and a one year old and my husband I travel with. He is not a travel nurse. Our apartment is also furnished. I don't care much about having linens, since I don't feel that is very sanitary. I have been at the same assignment now for close to one year in November. I have extended 4 times,(at the same hospital) my pay is still $35/hour, (composite pay) It is not a HIGH demand hospital (since sometimes hospitals really are in need of nurses/travelers thus the pay is higher) As a matter of fact, the census has been very low lately and I hear some agencies/hospital will cancel your contract. Not American Mobile. I have been very pleased and have always communicated all my concerns. My first assignment paid me $33. No copay for my apartment or anything. I am very happy with them and you always have the recourse of speaking to the operations manager in charge of your recruiter to handle unfair issues. They WILL always help you out. You just HAVE to speak up and they know you can always go to another company . They don't want lose you.
  13. I am not so much worried about the APA format. That I can figure out. I am mostly concerned with just getting the paper written and how to get started.... Regarding JU. They have an excellent reputation. I am a Jacksonville, Florida resident. It is a private university. The online RN-BSN program is EXACTLY the same curriculum "on campus" students attend. It is a well designed program. Check out the Jacksonville University Online program website. Just type it in to your search engine.
  14. Hi there. I am a traveler with American Mobile and I am very happy with them. PM me and I can give you further details. I have been with them for one year now. I am on travel assignment with my navy retired husband, my 1 year old son and my 3 year old daughter. I have been a nurse for about 3 years now, so this is very new to me. And I am NICU. I have had a very good experience. Let's chat
  15. Good Morning/Afternoon and/or Evening everyone. I am a travel NICU nurse presently in California. I am a Florida resident (though you don't have to be), and I will starting the RN to BSN program at Jacksonville University Online program in August. I will be fulltime status, 2 classes per semester and I should finish my degree in 18 months. I am already stressing about having to write research papers for second term and I would like to see if there is anyone out there who already has obtained their BSN and perhaps taken the research in nursing class online? What kind of research do these kind of classes require? How many pages and/or resources do you have to write? Words? Writing essays has never been my forte, and I couldn't imagine having to write a research paper. I have already been reading my "How to write a research paper". I also recently purchased the APA publication manual which I must have. It is so lengthy and there is soooo much to know. I am eager to hear for you. :rotfl:
