Second year of nursing school harder/easier

Is the second year of nursing school harder or easier than the first year(in an ADN Program)?

Honestly, I think it's just a different kind of hard. The academic load is lighter, but the expectations as far as quality and depth of work are much higher.

I agree with all the above but part of the problem is also our instructor. She is VERY hard on grading where on one student she will say this is correct then another you are not correct. We are punished for not knowing something or doing something right as opposed to facilitating a learning experience. She also finds a few students and rides them mercilessly through the end until they either fail the test req and if that doesnt happen she will fail you in clinical. She refuses to give out an A. One of my friends just got out of a conference with her and the instructor said that she deserved an A, but she just couldnt give it to her. And she is the only one for the class, we dont get to choose teachers. So either you go by her ridiculous rules and requirements or you fail out.

At my school the first year is hardest. The first five weeks are like hell. We had to pass a med calculation test, get tested on skills, write a 20 page paper, and pass the weekly fundamentals tests with a 78% or better. I think everyone was in shock. About 8 people of my 35 person class didn't make it through the first five weeks. They call it the "weeding out process." Everything has gotten better since then though. :)
