How many of you decided to sit for the LPN boards and try to pick up some shifts? I'm debating it. I'd love to have the experience before applying for RN positions. They all seem to require more experience than the LPN jobs, for some reason. Also, seems like it wouldn't look as bad on a resume to try several jobs as a student, versus moving around a lot as an graduate RN, assuming there are jobs available.
I think I might take the boards just so I know what to expect for the RN portion. Is that crazy?
I'm so sad, I just saw a dream position open locally and I wishwishwish I had my LPN so I could get my foot in the door.

My school doesn't have that as an option. If I had done that though, I couldn't have my PCT job at the hospital and that's been a very valuable learning experience, plus the paycheck and all ;P
We can apply for graduation and get a diploma, so I'd assume we can also sit for the boards. I know they don't recommend people take a year off between years, but I think working EOW would be really helpful in building skills.

I've seen a lot of people do this in my program and we picked up a ton of people the third semester that were re-entries for LPN-RN. There's nothing wrong with it and if that's what your heart desires, go for it! I think many new grad RN's are wishing they took that year off to get a year's worth of experience, which seems to be worth more in this job market. Good luck!
