Seattle University Transfer BSN

Published

Hi there,

I wanted to start a thread for others who may have applied to the BSN program at Seattle University as a transfer/post-bac students to support one another throughout the admission process.

I finished my essay in the nick of time, and am now anxiously settling in for the wait.

April is so far away.

Cheers,

K

I have officially decided to go to SU. Are you on the fb page yet?

Not yet! I will! I'm getting so excited now that I've decided. Do you live in Seattle now?

Just wanted to say my financial aid award is available at SU online! In case anyone else has been as anxious as I :)

I received my acceptance letter toward the end of last month, and received my financial aid award yesterday. I'm a post-baccalaureate student with a FAFSA EFC of 0, so 100% need. The complete financial aid award from SU that I received included only a federal loan of $12,500 - which leaves me $40,000 short per year based on their estimated $52,000 per year cost.

Seattle U gives no need or merit-based grants, scholarships or loans (other than the federal Stafford loan that maxes at $12,500 per year) to post-baccalaureate students. There is no need-based funding for post-baccalaureate students. The financial aid office suggested I take out $80,000 in private loans. If I had the capability to take out $80,000 in private loans, I wouldn't have an EFC of $0.

When I asked the financial aid officer if I would have a better chance at funding with their graduate nursing programs, she told me that the funding gap would be $20,000 or more per year for graduate programs as well.

TLDR; If you're post-baccalaureate, unless you have $80,000-100,000 to pay for the two years out of pocket, spend your time and money applying to schools other than Seattle University.

They give merit based scholarships if your GPA is 3.25 or higher.

Oh that's a bummer! I received 21k in scholarships from them. That's shocking they don't offer post bac students anything. What is your plan now?

Congrats on a great financial aid award! At least they're trying to help someone, even if they leave post bac students out in the cold. I really wish their website said that 6 months ago. :sarcastic:

I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. It's affordable to pick up an ADN but it doesn't make sense since I've got a B.A., and I'd have to do a 3rd year to bridge to get a BSN.

Not if you're a post-baccalaureate student. My GPA is 3.8. There are no merit or need-based scholarships at Seattle U for post-baccalaureate students.

I'm a post-bacc student and got a merit based scholarship.

Hi there!

I'm looking to apply to Seattle U as a post-bacc student. Online it says there's no merit-based scholarships for us; can you share some details about your stats and how you got a scholarship?

Thanks :)
