Seattle University

I am so excited! I was accepted to Seattle U, got it in the mail today! Anyone else out there that got in too? Anyone going there now that has advice? :D

Congrats Mnstn!

I am also worried about financial aid!! YIKES.

I was told letters would be mailed out April 20th. I hope there is some money available.

Not sure what type of scholarship/grant/?? but you can get money for tution, books, and maybe a living stipend in exchange for working for a hospital or community clinic for 2-3years after graduation. I am seriously considering this route. I don't want to be totally broke with a huge debt when I graduate!

I will be attending the April 4th open house and starting inthe fall BSN program!!

looking forward to meeting some of my fellow RN classmates!:nurse:

Can I ask anyone that was accepted into the BSN about your "stats" or whatever? I was waitlisted (still keeping my fingers crossed but not getting my hopes up) and just wanted to know what I can do between now and next year to improve my chances of getting in on my second try. I have a 3.85 in my prereqs and about the same in the rest of my classes, and had about 400 hours of medical volunteer work at the time of application. Was it the fact that I'm not a CNA that was the deal breaker? Are any of you that got accepted CNAs? Otherwise the only thing it could be is my essays and I thought I did a good job on them so I am just confused I guess. Any insight?

Congrats to those who were accepted?

Oops, I totally meant that question mark at the end to be an exclaimation. So, "Congrats to those who were accepted!" not "?" haha

My grades are about the same as yours. I have been working as a certified medical assistant for 3.5 years. I have an BS in marketing so this is my second career.

I'm sorry to hear you have to go through the wait list process. The whole BSN application process sucks.

Good luck to you. I would suggest contacting the admissions department in a few months to ask to speak with the director to find out more information.

mlr03,

I am a CNA (just hold the license, haven't worked full time as one), this is my second career too (BS in Psych already) and have spent most of my career thus far in healthcare administration. I have volunteer hours from a place I've been at for about three years. I have all of the certifications and classes done [HIV/AIDS, CNA, First Aid, CPR (I used to be an instructor for the CPR/FA)]. Maybe those are some things to do if you haven't yet? Your GPA is much higher than mine, but all of my prerequesites were complete (maybe are yours not all done yet?). I truly think GPAs are not that big of a deal to the BSN programs like they are for community colleges, so don't bother retaking anything. The BSN programs see you as a whole person and not a GPA number. Also, at the jobs I've been at I have had cross training to multiple areas of healthcare so I have a broad range of experience in a pretty short timeframe. I really don't know what they were looking for. That is such a bummer to be waitlisted. It's bad enough waiting to get in and then to get a letter saying 'maybe you're in'. That's tough. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I'm still waiting to hear back from Univ. of WA too so maybe you can have my spot if I get accepted there! :)

Thanks for the info, you two. It is starting to feel like it is impossible to get a BSN as an actual college-aged student. I know this isn't true, I am just really discouraged- a lot of the people I hear about that get in are 2nd degree seekers. I feel like I am at a disadvantage for knowing I want to be a nurse before earning another degree! At 19 years old, how am I supposed to gain the kind of experience like 3.5 years of work as a MA or a prior career in health care administration! AHH! Sorry, just wanting to vent.

Oh and twinkletoes...my fingers are extra crossed for you to get into UW ;-).

Thanks for the info and best of luck.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I was accepted as well and I'll be going to the April 18th orientation. To mlr03, I'm 19 too, so there is hope for us first degree seekers and I really hope you can enroll for fall quarter! Are any of you planning on working part-time while being in the program? The tuition is going to kill me too =/

Hey everyone- I got off the waitlist! I'm SO excited! I will see you all in the fall! :) :)

mlr03 - Congrats to you! I was accepted off UW's waiting list and I called this morning to Seattle University to cancel my spot and give it to the next person. How funny is that? You probably got my spot! :yeah:

CONGRATS on getting into UW! That's awesome you will be saving some money! They actually called me last week to "see if I was still interested" so they must have had a spot for me last week. But that's too funny how things like that work out. I don't think I could be more excited at all- and it has barely even hit me yet! :)

Anyone going to the May 19th orientation??

congrats mlr03!

What time is the orientation on May 19th? I am over in Spokane but would love to go. I haven't gotten my acceptance packet yet, it is still in Seattle but my boyfriend is visiting me today to bring it over. (I didn't hear my acceptance through the letter, but over the phone). Is there any other orientation after that?
