Seattle University APNI 2015

Published

Well, I know it's early.

Anyone applying for 2015 start?!?

Hey Guys! I stumbled across this video of an APNI alum. Check it out! For those interviewing, it might give you some ideas..??

Questions asked to me at interview time:

Why Seattle University? ..Know the mission statement and values and how they align with yours

Why nursing and not Dr or PA?

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

How do you feel about the upcoming requirement of having a DNP and are you interested in pursuing a doctorate?

Discuss an interpersonal conflict and how you overcame.

Why did you wear that shirt for this interview? ;)

That last one was of course, a joke. I actually had a great time with my interviewers. I felt as if they were mentors during the interview. It was great to share ideas, and discuss the healthcare needs of our community with professionals.

I went in there mumbling at first, but then realized what I was telling them I had already been telling my friends for years. Try and pretend you're telling family members, or other friends why you're interested in nursing. I'm sure we've all discussed this several times with close relatives and friends as to why we're wishing to enter the field. I felt the interview was no different than a challenging dinner discussion amongst friends.

Also, there were two students from the current cohort in my interview. They were great! I had time to briefly ask them about the demands of the 1st year, and how they're fitting in with life at Seattle U. It was a great opportunity to ask any questions about the program from their point of view.

Other advice to pass along:

Get there early! I parked about an hr before my interview. It allowed me the opportunity to stretch my legs, and get the blood flowing beforehand. There was even a few minutes to hydrate, and chew gum like it's going out of style. I even had a few moments to go over some notes beforehand. Another major plus is that there will be other students in the waiting area that feel as anxious as you. I ran into a few students while waiting and it was great to chat before the interview.

@PHXTOSEA , That really makes me feel better. That is exactly what I was thinking my interview to be, stone cold looks on the interviewers faces and bombarding me with behavioral questions. Could you let me know the question style? Was it more so general and just wanting to know your overall interest in the field?

also thank you so much badabing! Loved the last question, probably eased all the nerves too!

Hi!

Congrats on a good interview. Here is the link to the facebook page

From what it says on the FB page, they are sending out invites not based on ranking but based on when the staff who are reviewing applications return their stack of reviewed apps back to the admissions office. Sounds kind of random.

I applied for psych too and am still waiting for an interview invite. When did you receive your invitation to interview?

Thanks!

@badabing

are you in the psych track?

@cat.friedman I got my interview invite yesterday. >.

@holahawaii..I applied for AGNP this year. Congrats on your interview invite!! That's great!!

@holahawaii, Congrats! That's so exciting. I want to let you know that I also applied and interviewed for AGNP and did not have 80% of the questions that @bababing had. I don't know if it is doing you any favor by giving you the exact questions I had because 1. I was so nervous don't remember the exact wording of the questions haha 2. Any questions I may remember may throw off your authenticity of you and how you truly would answer the questions because you are focused on a script 3. Sounds like you are applying for a different track that may not have any of the same questions. Does that makes sense?

But I will say this, think about why you want to be in the program. What your future goals are in regards to the nursing program and Seattle U. How you react in groups, group experiences. Honestly none of the questions were "hard" per se but are open ended questions. So therefore you really need to be authentic to yourself. As cheesy as it is, it is obvious they want you to bring your most authentic self to the room and there is nothing scary about the interview. I honestly thought about having a glass of wine before my interview because I was sooooo nervous but settled on classical music as I walked up to the building because something about alcohol on your breath and red wine stained lips is not professional haha.

I wish you all the best!!!!

I just received an emailing informing me that I've been admitted for Psych NP route!
