Hey!
Like so many before me, I thought I would start a thread for those applying to the Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion program at Seattle University set to begin summer 2017. I am an SU alumni who double majored in Psychology and Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies. Thinking I wanted to pursue a PhD/PsyD in developmental psychology I took a position as a volunteer research assistant at the Center For Child and Family Well-Being at the University of Washington and have been doing work for them on various research projects for the past year and a half. I also volunteered for two years in undergrad at Childhaven with at risk children and families. My first rounds of psych PhD applications completely destroyed my soul (I may be exaggerating). In the aftermath of numerous rejection emails, I continued research, but ultimately decided that it was too sterile for me. Although the study I was assisting on worked specifically with those in underserved communities, I felt that I needed to be more hands on/directly engaged with their needs rather than conducting data collections and sending them on their way. I have been eyeing out Seattle U's Family Psychiatric Mental Health DNP specialization (yes, they have made the full switch over to the DNP and I believe we will be the first cohort accepted into it). I have been in touch with Ann Hirsch, one of the program directors, and she told me that they tend to look at the GPA from your last two years of undergrad (90 credits quarter/60 semester) and would like to see at least a 300 on the GRE with a score of 4-4.5 on the writing portion. She recommended that I make an appointment to see the head of the psych track so she can answer more of my questions about the program. Dr. Hirsch told me that it sounds like I'm going to be a very strong applicant, but the thought of applying to another doctorate program completely terrifies me. ANY and ALL advice from ANYONE would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I'll glean some tips and support from this forum as I know firsthand that applying to any graduate program is an extremely frustrating and stressful process.
Congratulations to everyone that has gotten an interview so far! I was curious for those of you who received a call did they send an email as well? My phone service can be a bit iffy so I would like to know there is another form of communication as well if I am fortunate enough to get an interview!
I received the phone call first, once I agreed that I could make it on short notice then they said they would send an email.
I'm pretty certain they are interviewing throughout the month of February. I imagine that most people selected to interview will also be contacted with relatively short notice.
Hi All-- I applied for the AGNP track and received a call on Thursday for a phone interview this Saturday the 28th. There wasn't a follow up email or anything. I live in Arizona, hence the phone interview.
I turned in my application ahead of the deadline, which could be as good as any reason why I'm included in the first round of interviews. Good luck! If I get any stellar insights from the interview, I will share them here.
If Seattle U is truly holistic, then I should have at least an interview (Not to sound "all deserving" or anything).
With all due respect, this absolutely sounds "all deserving" and even borderline elitist. You applied to a hyper-competitive nursing specialty within a hyper-competitive doctoral program with arguably mediocre statistics.
Best of luck.
I interviewed on Jan 28 and I think I did okay.
The interview is very relaxed and conversational. So don't panic too much.
However, watch out for some tough questions that are very specific to your track. It felt like they want to know exactly why you chose one track instead of the others and why you think you are more likely to succeed academically and professionally in one track over the other.
Good luck to all who are interviewing.
I am sure you did great! I interviewed last year, and they ask everyone the same questions. My best advice is to really know why you want to do nursing, your specialty, and SU. Relax (easier said than done) and be yourself. Also interviews all go through end of this month, and they call everyone at random, so don't freak out if you see people in your specialty getting a interview already.

Really? I don't know what happened at my interview on Saturday but I was not asked a single one of those questions. Completely threw me for a loop since that was what I was expecting. I must have really gave them a bad vibe or something.
