Not sure why I'm spacing out on this one, but it is corret that we had the option of collecting the letters of recs from the recommenders then sending them together with the rest of the material, right?

I am not sure. Usually, you're not supposed to see the letters, are they in a sealed envelope?

yes. completely sealed. I think when i called to ask, they said it was ok so long as it was sealed with a signature across the back

Just finished applying to another program, and unfortunately I ended up liking its letter of intent a little more than the one for SU. SU is really my number one choice but of course I'm applying to a few others as back-up. Bummer.

Which other programs did you apply? I didn't even research other programs, mostly because I can't move. Good thing I love everything about Seattle U, but I'm going to have to be very patient!

Why do you think the other LOI was better? I worked a little bit on mine last night when I was talking to you.. I need to change how I worded some phrases, but I'm close to finishing it.

Don't second guess yourself, I am sure the other LOI was just was good! You're probably just nervous because SU is your first choice.

MSW,

Do you know approximately how many members of the current co-hort have a Master's degree in another field? Seems like having a master shows that a prospective student has the ability to handle graduate level course work, but if the degree is unrelated to the health care field perhaps it is insignificant to the admissions committee. What are your thoughts? Do you believe that your MSW made you a more well-rounded candidate or were the most important application factors your volunteer work and high science GPA? Thanks

Hi all! I'm also in the 2011 cohort along with angeljs12000, junipers, and MSW530 (MSW and I are in group projects together all the time). I think I know who angeljs12000 and junipers are...haha.

I would also be more than happy to answer any questions as well. Like MSW530, I had a background as an MSW-social worker prior to coming to the APNI program. I initially wanted to go into the PMHNP track, but changed my mind and wanted to learn about adult primary care, so I ultimately opted for the AGNP (Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Track), and am very, very happy about my choice. The program lead for our track seems inspiring and wonderful!

I think everything that angeljs12000, junipers, and MSW530 have said so far is accurate and helpful! The biggest thing I would recommend is that you take some time to relax, enjoy the holidays, and see how it goes from here. For our cohort, early interviews started in early Feb, and some people knew their status as early as the beginning of March. However, this is an early timeline. Many of my close friends (and all 50 of us are pretty much close friends by this point) had later interviews and later admissions, and every single one of them is highly qualified, intelligent, and down to earth! It's a wonderful group.

Feel free to ask any questions, and I will remind myself to check this group now! I'd forgotten that there would probably be a 2012 thread on here until just now.
