Seattle RN Job Market

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Lovely fellow nurses,

I am looking to relocate from OR to WA, Seattle to be exact. I graduated from my ADN program last year and have just over one year of ICU experience after completing a critical care internship. I will graduate from my BSN program through OHSU this December.

So here is my question: What is the current job market for critical care RNs in Seattle with an almost-BSN degree?

I am considering applying for step-down or PCU as well. I've heard rumors that the job market for RNs in Seattle is tough and very limited. I'm hoping to get some more insight as well as maybe some information on where to look. My WA license should go through in about 3-4 weeks which is when I can start applying. Right now I have been looking at Swedish, UW, and Virgina Mason. Are there any other acute care facilities that I am missing?

I really appreciate the input!

Kathrin

Following this thread as well, as I have the same questions and desire to move there. Which hospitals are best? And what would an hourly rate be for a nurse with a few years experience?

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

Not sure of the current market, but add Harborview, Northwest, Overlake and Evergreen to your list of area hospitals to search for jobs. If you don't have to be in Seattle proper I've heard from friends still in the area that getting a hospital job in Tacoma or Olympia is easier - particularly for ADN nurses (though you'll have your BSN so it may not matter soon).

I think pay rates start in low 30s/hr for base pay and go up from there for new grads, but many of the hospitals are unionized so you should be able to find SIEU/WSNA contracts with pay information online.

Thank you for the info. I really appreciate it! I'll look into those other hospitals as well:)

Do you happen to know the best hospital or facility to start for a New Nurse in Tacoma or through your friend's experience? I am looking for RN residency.

Thanks a lot!
