Searching for work ...Strike Nurse

Published

I am 4 year RN and have recently completed a 2 week per diem assignment in CA. It went pretty well, but I was at 4 hospitals in 4 days. That was challenging. I cannot take a long travel assigment b/c I have 2 small chidren, and I would like something where I could be at the same facility for at least the majority of the time. I have researched travel nursing some and they ask for a 2 week commitment. I am having a hard time getting a company contact. I have sent e-mails and left messages for Strike Nurse USA and haven't had any return response. I am hearing that there is a strike in the San Franscisco Bay Area. If anyone knows of a good company that staffs for strikes, I would appreciate the contact information.

Thanks,

I think that everyone has a right to speak their true feelings about issues, such as crossing the picket line, or as some might see as a betrayal. And it often comes to pass that we get back what we give and what we do. There is Karma in every action that we do. But that is something we must learn for ourselves. And since I have the right to speak my opinion I will. I think it is usually wrong to cross the picket line and people who do it are usually doing it for the money.

People are going to want to staff strikes, cross picket lines and make as much money as they can regardless of our opinion.

You certainly are entitled to your opinion, but sometimes it's not necessary to highjack the thread with it. Sometimes it's best to let a topic go and let the person seek their information about staffing strikes and making money. The Karma of silence might be best in this case.

Not sure if anyone's offered this perspective, but there are other reasons people cross picket lines aside from money. Yes, the money is nice. Also, there are patients that need care regardless of whether the staff nurses work or not. I have been a member of a union and appreciate the benefits of having a voice, having more "rights", so to speak... but also, the patients don't generally disappear or go elsewhere just because the staff is on strike. Someone has to take care of them. The facility is not usually going to close down just because nurses strike -- they will have to hire nurses to cross the picket line, pay them a lot of money, and chances are things get negotiated in your favor (at least a LITTLE in your favor) to the point of settling, and then you go back to work and the strike nurses go on with their lives.

I personally would appreciate a strike nurse -- could be worse... if the facility DOES shut down due to no staff, there's the possibility that maybe it doesn't open back up and you, who are on strike, then just have to find a new job. *shrug* Just another POV. :)
