Scrubs?

Published

I start my CNA/GNA class in just over a month. I will be going 5 days a week for 15 weeks. I have to wear royal blue tops and bottoms every single day (no cute designs or pretty colors :arghh: ) What type of scrubs do you like to wear? I bought a pair at Walmart for $12 but there are no pockets on the pants and just a breast pocket on the top, and the fabric has no type of stretch to it at all and doesn't seem very durable.

Will there be a lot of bending? for example When learning CPR will the "patient" be in a bed or will I have to get down on the floor? Just trying to decide if it is worth the extra money for more comfy scrubs? TIA!

Scrubs and beyond has some stretchy ones.

The last time I did a CPR class the patient was on the floor.

I like my scrubs with lots of pockets. I hate the breast pocket because the stuff in it usually falls out.

Don't bother with the Walmart scrubs. They won't last as long as name brand scrubs. I wear Dickies Everyday Scrubs. They are cheap but durable and comfortable.

The times I've done it, the patient was in a bed with a board behind them. However, there have been cases where they had people collapse in hallways and stairways in hospitals. Luckily I've had people fall in bathrooms that did not require CPR, just backboarding.

I like Aviator Scrubs for the pockets. The female top is kind of "meh" but it is fine enough. I'll probably buy other brands of tops and buy the pants. The pants are very durable.

I buy Walmart scrubs all the time and find them comfortable and durable. The secret is to NEVER buy the ones that are 100% cotton. They shrink and lose their shape and generally look crappy in only a few washes. However, the cotton/poly blend are fine and I've even found some super cute ones! :) And yes, lots of pockets are good, but breast pockets suck. Most tops I find have waist/hip pockets, and I use those all the time.

I found that I can buy name brand scrubs for about the same price as Walmart.

If the specific color is just for the class, cheap is ok.

Once you start working, you will find that pockets are a MUST! The more the better. Stretchy isn't as important but I like to have room in my scrubs, especially the tops.

I have been able to find scrubs at yard sales and thrift or second hand stores for very reasonable prices.

The facility you end up at may require a different color or may even provide you with uniforms, so keep that in mind. You don't want to spend alot of $$ on scrubs that you can't use once you start working.

When I did my training, I had 1 top and 1 pair of pants in the color required for the class.
