Scrubs

Published

I have been concerned about something that is increasingly common and that is health care providers wearing their scrubs while shopping, exercising or any variety of activities. I know I am old school (when I graduated we wore white and did not shop in our uniforms, wear our caps outside the hospital setting, etc, etc). Now, scrubs are everywhere. With the increase in antibiotic resistant bacteria, I do not like the fact that someone who just got off a machine at Curves was wearing her "uniform" and that it may be contaminated with MRSA or VRE.

Am I being "picky"?

I am guilty of going to the grocery store when getting off from work. I totally agree with you. When I get home the first thing I do is pull of my clothes at the door and take them to the laundry room. You have a good point. It can go either way carrying germs to and from work. We all have think more cautious.

THANK YOU!

I went to nursing school at San Jacinto near Houston and I will forever hear Mrs. Luna telling stories of filthy and digusting things that happen in the hospital. It was drilled into our little student heads to get home and drop those nasty, germy uniforms right in the laundry room and get them washed. And then off to the shower. My first job was in Labor and Delivery where the hospital provided scrubs so we just wore our street clothes to work and changed into hospital scrubs when we got there and changed again when we got off-duty.:)

I find scrubs comfortable to wear. I'd prefer wearing them than the usual white crisp uniforms that most nurses still wear here in the Philippines. It is not uncommon to see nurses wearing their scrubs after work in public places such as the grocery.
