Scripps Summer 2014 New Grad Residency

Published

I spoke to a recruiter during the first day of the application, she said they're not considering the first 500 this cohort, however, they are only looking at the first 150. From there, they'll interview 50. Just giving everyone a heads up. I was 450ish and was very surprised when I heard this.

To be honest, I think it's just downright rude and disrespectful for them to leave the application open even though they know that they won't look at any more than 150. Why would they let us sit there for hours answering all of the short answer questions, working diligently on our cover letters, and resumes? Just shut the application down!

Sorry, just my two cents!

Sorry to hear that Colby. I was rooting for you bc you seem genuinely interested in San Diego :)

Thank you so much for noticing my commitment to the area. I've applied for my licensure in California and plan on moving this summer. I too am very frustrated by this information. I asked the recruiter directly, "So because i was 450, and you're considering only the first 150, that means for sure that you won't look at my application?" There was an awkward pause of silence and she restated that piece of information again.

To be very frank and honest, what a horrible business decision on behalf of Scripps. To be competing with the likes of SHARP and UCSD, and then hire only the first 150 new grads who have the time to push "ENTER" first, is not intelligent at all. The high quality new grads you want are working diligently on their craft, still in class, studying, preparing for exams and finalizing projects, and are going to plan their day around academics, shifts of part time employments, and schedule in the time to apply for new grad positions within the allotted time frame given by Scripps. Just a horrible decision by recruiting, while SHARP is going through ALL 1500 applicants to see who would be the best fit. It's mind boggling to me, really.

I couldn't agree with you more Colby! It makes no sense to pick the first 150 just because they applied first. Heck, it's their loss. Number 151 could've been an awesome nurse who'll just have to work at one of their competitor hospitals ;) darn

This is just so disheartening :( it's so wrong! I was definitely not in the first 150!

Do not get down on yourselves. Like LoveMeSomeLDL has stated, it's truly their loss, as well as one of the worst business moves I have ever seen from a multi-billion dollar organization. I have half a mind to write someone in the new grad department or even the CEO. However, I know I'll bite my tongue, and do nothing. Everyone gets exactly what they put into life. The harder you work, the more you earn. We all went through school and payed our dues, we know this. If Scripps wants to take shortcuts to providing the best care they can possibly provide for their patients, then let their patient satisfaction scores (and consequently, compensation) reflect that.

Spoke to a recruiter the other day, interviews are all over and they will be rejecting the rest of us this week.

anyone applying to the new grad program in august?

Yeah, I'll be applying. It's for the Winter cohort right? I'm a student right now, graduating in December. I assume I can apply because I'll be graduated by the time I start. Best of luck to everyone applying!
