Screenings for Cyber Students

Published

My school district has their own cyber program and we have a decent number of students that are in the cyber program. The last 2 years, I sent letters to the parents of the cyber students requesting to bring the students in for screenings to be done, but hardly ever get any responses. Anyone have any ideas that have worked for getting their cyber students screened? How many times do you contact parents regarding this??

Cyber, or any type of "home" schooling students get a letter that offers a height, weight, vision, and hearing screening done at the school yearly. It asks them to call the school nurse to make an appointment if they would like it done.

As far as I'm aware, no one has ever come in for it, but this way we have it on file that it was offered since it is a state mandated screening. (This is done through administration office at the district level, not building or nurse level).

We have to check and keep their vaccination and physical records. (which I'm glad for because in some states, home schooled and cyber schooled students have been horribly abused without anyone noticing because no-one knew they existed. Like that big family recently in CA.)

I think we just offer screening services but I'm not sure because I'm not one of the screening nurses.

If they are going through a state cyber program, they have to come in for standardized assessment as well. One more chance to lay eyes on them but also an opportunity for illness to spread if someone isn't vaccinated.
