I was hoping to work in the ED. I am not to sure if they will accept new grads though. I am pondering applying this week but I may think it is a little to early. I was also hoping for experience in the ICU but I am very open to anything because I figure any experience (except OB for me) I can get is great. Any recommendations?
they do take new grads into the ED. If ED is your thing I would recommend either campus, the Osborn would have more traumas since they're a trauma 1. I've met two new grads in the Shea ED and they seem to be doing well.
Um, I don't know about Shea, but I do know that they don't take new grads at Osborn. In the past I think they may have, but they definitely don't now. Seriously, if I were a new grad I wouldn't try to start in an ER unless they had an extensive program specifically designed for new grad nurses or had a reputation for hiring new grads (you can check the ER area for this unending debate).
I would check out the hospital websites and look at the job description for ER nurses. Do they read 'new grads welcome' or 'at least a year's of experience needed?' I've seen new grads crash and burn in some of Phoenix's ERs (including Scottsdale). It's not pretty.

Disclaimer: Take my words with a grain of salt, I haven't even started nursing school yet!
I think Scottsdale Healthcare likes you to have at least 6 months experience before starting in a specialty area. So I doubt they'd take new grads into their ER or ICU right away.
But there are some great level I trauma centers here in the valley that do take new grads and have great orientation programs. Check out St. Joes or County (Maricopa Medical Center).
Good luck to you!

Hello all,
I am a current student scheduled to graduate in Dec, 06. I am planning on a move to phoenix in Jan, 07 and was looking into the area hospitals. I am intrigued by Scottsdale health care, primarily the osborn campus. I was curious if anyone has had any insight with them. I have only looked over their website and any info that anyone can share is much appreciated.
