In 1946, Binghamton University State University of New York (SUNY), a public institution, was founded.

Undergraduate

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Traditional Freshman

The program is for the high school graduate that has never attended college. Applicants must be graduates of accredited secondary schools or have an equivalent education. Admission is competitive and high school students must demonstrate strength in biology, Chemistry and mathematics. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and/or the American College Test (ACT) scores must also be submitted.

BSN – Traditional Transfer

The BSN - Traditional Transfer program is designed for those who have completed one or two years of undergraduate coursework at an accredited college or university (not Binghamton) and do not hold a Bachelor's degree.

Applicants must be graduates of accredited secondary schools or have an equivalent education. Candidates with less than 24 completed college credits must submit test scores from either the SAT or ACT. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum 3.0 average in the prerequisite requirements.

Baccalaureate Accelerated Track (BAT)

The program is designed for students that hold a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing.

• All prerequisites must be completed prior to the start of the program

• Documented prior work or volunteer experience that enhances knowledge of current nursing practice will all be taken into consideration

RN to BSN

The program is for the Registered Nurse or those who are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam. A GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) is required.

There is also an accelerated track available but students must have all General Education, nursing prerequisite and general elective courses completed as well as must be licensed with at least one full year of work experience as an RN at the time of application.

BSN - Double Degree

The program is for the current Binghamton University students that desire to hold two degrees; one in nursing and a second degree at another school at Binghamton.

After successful graduation, the students are eligible to take the national licensing examination (NCLEX-RN) to become RNs.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) and a minimum 3.0 average in the prerequisite requirements.

BSN - Intra-University Transfer

This program is for current Binghamton University students, in any field, that have a desire to transfer into the Decker School of Nursing.

Graduate

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

NOTE: In April 2018, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) made the commitment to move all entry-level nurse practitioner education to the DNP degree. To maintain currency with this national nursing recommendation, the Decker School will transition its Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) specialty programs to the DNP degree starting in Spring 2020. Binghamton University will admit their final cohort to the master's advanced practice NP programs in fall 2019.

• One year of full-time employment is strongly encouraged prior to beginning a program of study
• GRE scores are not routinely required however may be requested

PLEASE NOTE: Admission to the post-BS to DNP program has been temporarily suspended; international students are ineligible to apply to the DNP program due to U.S. Department of Homeland Security regulations.

Application Post-BS to DNP (not all inclusive)

• BSN from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program
• GPA of 3.0 or better
• Current, unencumbered license to practice as an RN in the U.S.
• Taken and passed the NCLEX-RN examination prior to the start of clinical courses
• Successful completion of a descriptive statistics course
• Submission of a 500-1,000-word essay
• One year of full-time RN employment as a professional RN is strongly recommended
• Resume or CV
• Evidence of professional productivity, scholarship, involvement in research, etc.
• Interview with program director or member of the DNP admissions committee

Application - Post-Master's to DNP (not all inclusive)

• MSN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• BSN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Graduate GPA of 3.0 or better
• Current, unencumbered license to practice as an RN in the U.S.
• Current, unencumbered license to practice as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist in the U.S. 
• Three letters of recommendation
• Successful completion of a graduate-level statistics course within the past five years
• Submission of a 500-1,000-word essay
• Resume or CV
• Proof of national certification as a Nurse Practitioner

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The program is a research-based degree that requires 52–54 credit hours of study and successful completion and defense of a dissertation. The program is offered on Fridays.

• BSN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited school of nursing
• GPA of 3.0 or better
• Two papers that demonstrate your ability to analyze and synthesize nursing phenomena
• Three recommendations
• A statement of research interests and professional goals
• Current, unencumbered license to practice as an RN in the U.S.
• All applicants are required to have taken and passed the NCLEX-RN examination prior to the start of clinical courses
• Completion of a statistics course (within five years)
• Resume or CV, including employment and education history
• Personal interview

Approval and Accreditation

The New York State Board of Regents approved all nursing programs at Binghamton University Decker School of Nursing.

Binghamton University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the BSN program, the MSN program, the DNP program, and the Post-graduate APRN certificate program.
