Accelerated Baccalaureate

This program is designed for students who have completed a bachelor's degree in another field at the State University of New York at Stony Brook or at another comparable institution. The program is only 12 months in length and at the end of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam.

Registered Nurse Baccalaureate Program

The Registered Nurse to Baccalaureate Degree Program (RNBP) has a focus on preparing current Registered Nurses holding an associate's degree or diploma in nursing. The program is offered through a distance learning program with on-site requirements.

  • Minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • 57 college credits with a grade C or better
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) w/ AED

Registered Nurse Baccalaureate to Master's

Registered Nurses who hold an associate's degree or diploma in nursing can advance into the Baccalaureate to Master's Program.  After qualifications are met, students are able to continue into the Master of Science in Nursing program in their designated specialty area. This program is a distance learning program with on-site requirements.

  • Minimum 1-year clinical experience as an RN in clinical area of interest
  • 57 college credits with a grade C or better
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended

  • Evidence of health insurance
  • Evidence of student malpractice insurance

The Master of Science programs are designated as Distance Education programs with on-site requirements.

Nursing Education

This program is designed for nurses who want to be prepared as educators teaching new and advanced nurses in schools of nursing as well as in clinical settings.

Nursing Leadership

This program is designed to prepare nurses as leaders and to assume leadership positions across all levels of nursing and the health care continuum.

Adult-Gerontological NP

This program is designed to prepare nurses as expert providers of primary health care to young adults, adults, older adults, and their families across health care settings.

Family Nurse Practitioner

This program is designed to prepare nurses as expert providers of primary health care to individuals across the lifespan in a variety of health care settings.

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

This program is designed to prepare nurses as expert providers of health care to neonates and their families across health care settings.

Pediatric NP

This program is designed to prepare nurses as expert providers of primary health care to children and their families across health care settings.

Psychiatric/Mental Health NP

This program is designed to prepare nurses as expert providers of health care to patients with psychiatric or psychosocial issues across health care settings.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

Nurses who currently hold a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing can apply to the Post-Baccalaureate DNP program. The program requires a minimum of 1,000 hours of clinical practice and 87 curriculum credits. Those who hold a nurse practitioner degree or degree in midwifery may be eligible for advanced standing and enter the DNP program at the post-master's level. Each applicant will have a gap analysis conducted to confirm previous coursework taken and validate the number of clinical hours performed at the Master's level. The program at the advanced post-master's level is a minimum of 42 credits. A minimum of 500 additional hours of scholarly practice are required in order to meet the 1,000+ post-baccalaureate scholarly practice hour requirement.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The cohort-based program is offered on-site one day a week. The length of the program is 2.5 years to complete, with an additional one year for dissertation. This is the first public university in Suffolk County to offer a PhD in Nursing program.
