Schools in New Jersey?

Holy Name Hospita has a diploma program for RN's and LPN's. You should apply soon, they may have the application on their website, if not - they can mail one to you. When I applied there - they still required interviews. That was in 2006. The cost is somewhat over $20,000 for the 2 years, and that was not all inclusive. You could make it an Associated degree program if you took a couple classes (provided at their campus) from another school (I forget which one). It supposed to great program, but when I applied there I also applied at another school which was significantly less cost. Bergen Community College has a 2 year associates degree program. I am currently in my last semester there. It took me 3 years since I took a year to do all the pre and co-req's so when I strated nursing classes, I only had to do nursing classes. It is very competitive to get in, the basically go by test scores, and although you have to be invited to test - I really am not sure what the criteria are. I had a 4.0 gpa - but there are a few who came in right from hs, and some I know who had 3.8, and I believe even 3.7 gpa - but again, I am not really sure. You can get an application to BCC on their web page - for general studies, then you apply separately for the nursing program, and when accepted - they change your major automatically. Applications for fall 2009 are due soon, maybe March 1 or March 10 - check the web site, or google Bergen Community College nursing program, and it may bring you to BCC nursing page. The secretary's name is Angie, and she should be able to help you with further info. SOmeone told me they recently changed their nursing admitting tests/procedures, so it is best to get it right from staff.

It seems like the determining factor for Bergen Community College was the entrance exam. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Min GPA is now 3.0....and I believe one needs to have at least a 3.0 in the pre-reqs. I know several that were accepted into the program with just over a 3.0 GPA. I had a 3.4 when I applied. I have a friend that had a 3.8+ GPA that was not accepted. His entrance score was lower than mine and this is why I am concluding that the entrance exam in the determining factor. I am in my first level of the evening program. the professors are great.

Thanks so much for the replies! I was wondering, should I start applying while I'm still living in Texas, or wait until I move. I'd like to get started as soon as possible, but I want to make sure I chose the right school. Thanks so much!!

You should apply as soon as possible. I went to Raritan Vally Community College and there was a two year wait list to start the nursing program. Everyone got all of the extra requirements out of the way while we were waiting. I don't know how long the wait lists are for the other schools now but I had heard they had the same wait length as well. We had to finish A&P 1 &2 before we could start the nursing program. You should definitely ask if there is a wait list and how long till you would start the nursing program of any school you are looking into.
