School Supplies

Good Afternoon!

In three weeks time many of us will be embarking on a new path in life as nursing students! I, for one, am very excited! I am beinging the RPN program and will be bridging to the RN progam in two years time.

I have a few questions for the experienced:

What kind of stethoscope do I need? Will they tell us at orientation? I have spent some time researching a few different types, but I am so confused!

Also, Id like to get a jump on ordering some scrubs. Is it true that you must have different colours for different placements?

Any other supplies that they dont tell you about that you have found useful?

Wait until school starts and just follow the list.

Scrubs can be bought at Zellers, Sears, Marks, and Walmart. No real need to go ordering anything in advance. Some schools don't require uniform until second semester, others want you to buy one set with their insignia. Just wait it out. They don't expect you to show up with everything.

And not to be a downer but out of my class 10% left before they even needed a uniform.

I would also advice waiting until school starts to purchase things like uniforms/stethascopes. You don't want to spend money on something you can't use.

As for other supplies - depends on your studying habilts/preferances. I found file cards to be great for reviewing things. I could put a question on one side/ info on the other and carry them around. When waiting for buses or in line for something, I would pull them out and review.

The school sent me a letter which stated which supplies I needed to purchase... I was given the choice of going medical supply store or buying it through the school bookstore.

I purchased the Littman Classic II stethoscope, since at the bookstore there was that style and another one to choice from.

Talk to you school or see if your book store sells a specific style.

Goodluck.

Excellent question. Where are you attending school?
